I know everybody loves a new name, a new star.  This guy is Top 50 in my view.

Class of 2017 F Devin Gilmore (MS)  I watched him play in January and just caught up with his HS coach today.  Here are a few facts:

6’6” 165
38” vertical
16 ppg, 8rpg as sophomore

His uncle is Morris Peterson (Michigan State and Toronto Raptors) and his cousin is Jonathan Bender (Pacers).

Here are some quotes on Devin, from Madison Ridgeland Academy Head Coach Richard Duease:

It seems like the better teams we played the better he played.  We are working on him working harder and smarter
His AAU team won the tournament in Dallas this weekend.  He had 17 in the finals this weekend.  He is playing 16u.

This next year we are going to play him at the 3.  His shot is getting better.  To me that was his biggest weakness.  That and defense.  But defense can be taught.  We are going to play Clint (Moses) at the 1 and Devin at the 3.  We have a couple of 6’5” inside.  I think he can bring it down (the floor).

Most of the time this year we really concentrated on him getting to the rim.  He has a 38” vertical before he started VERT training.  I think he will be 44”.  He is 6’6”.  His cousin is Jonathan Bender.  His uncle is Morris Peterson.

He has come a long way.  As a freshman he didn’t start.  The Championship game we started him and he had 15 points and 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.  We won the overall championship.  His game was limited.  Now when he gets it off the rebound he is able to move the ball.  He had a tendency to pass and stand.  I don’t know where that comes from.  We are working to get that out of him.
