]]>“I chose VMI because of the family and brother-type atmosphere,” Arnold said. “The coaches gave me great vibes on what their expectations were for not only me as a player, but the team and program moving forward.”
VMI is getting an excellent prospect in Arnold with great size on the wing, solid rebounding abilities, beautiful shot mechanics, and a wonderful feel for the game. He should have no problems being able to contribute right away in the Southern Conference.
Arnold was also being recruited by Campbell and Ohio as well, but ultimately he felt that VMI was the right place for him.
“I feel that Jake Stephens and I can come in and help keep moving the program forward,” Arnold said.

]]>Quick Thoughts:
2020 PG Jalen Cone of Walkertown continues to prove he’s among the elite at his position in his class. The 5’11 floor general has great court vision and has a killer mid-range jumper. With his speed and handles, Cone is already a matchup nightmare but if he grows another few inches it will just make things that much more difficult to guard him.
2017 PF Denzel Hayes only stands at 6’3” for Walkertown, but he made sure his presence was known down low tonight. Hayes finished with a bruising stat line of 20 points and 12 rebounds while also collecting a block. Even though he’s garnering some looks on the football field, Hayes could be a great addition to a D2 or D3 JUCO school. He was one of the clear leaders on the floor, and his motor never seemed to stop or slow down throughout the game.
The biggest bright spot for the Atkin Camels had to have been 2018 wing Corey Rutherford who scored 20 points with a majority of those baskets coming from beyond the three-point line. Standing around 6’4”, he has good size on the perimeter and could be a solid D2/LM down the road.
Final Stats:
Walkertown-72
2017 6’3” PF Denzel Hayes: 20 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block
2020 5’11” PG Jalen Cone: 16 points, 9 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 steals
2018 6’1” SF Antoine Lowery: 16 points, 5 rebounds
2017 6’0” SG Sherrard Wells: 9 points, 5 assists, 1 steal
2017 6’0” Riyan McClain: 6 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal
2018 5’11” SG Quintin Welch: 3 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals
Atkins-54
2018 6’4” WG Corey Rutherford: 20 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal
2019 6’1” SG Trey Baker: 9 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals
2020 5’7” CG Arrington Jones: 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
2019 5’9” PG Tyliq Hairston: 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists
2017 6’2” CF Benny Monroe: 5 points
2018 6’2” WG Saeed Muhammad: 4 points, 2 rebounds
Quick Thoughts:
The pair of 2019’s on Davie County have loads of potential. 2019 Owen McCormack is 6’7” CF with a sweet stroke from the three point line, good rebounding abilities, and a great sense for rim protection. While 2019 Michael Walton is a 6’3” wing guard with fantastic handling and slashing abilities that allow him to get to the basket in the blink of an eye. Definitely should keep an eye out for these two in the Mocksville/Salisbury area.
2017 CG Arion Broadnax is a straight killer for Reynolds high school. Now as a senior he has firmly taken over the role as his team’s main leader, and is never afraid of the big moment. D2/NAIA schools would definitely be wise to give this kid a look.
Even though Reynolds will lose key seniors in Arion Broadnax and Xavier Coles, they are in good hands with 2018’s Ian Henderson, Naseer Clemmons, Trevis Murphy, and Jayshawn Hawkins. Keep an eye on Henderson and Clemmons as both have potential to extend their basketball playing days beyond high school.
Final Stats:
R.J. Reynolds-74
2017 6’1” CG Arion Broadnax: 25 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
2018 6’3” CF Naseer Clemmons: 12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal
2018 5’11” CG Ian Henderson: 11 points, 1 rebound, 2 steals
2017 6’2” CF Xavier Coles: 6 points, 6 boards, 1 block
2018 6’0” WG Trevis Murphy: 6 points, 1 rebound
2018 5’10” CG Jayshawn Hawkins: 5 points, 1 rebound
2017 6’4” CF Lemuel Gaither: 4 points, 4 rebounds
Davie County-70
2019 6’3” WG Michael Walton: 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal
2019 6’7” CF Owen McCormack: 15 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks
2018 6’2” CG Cooper Wall: 9 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 1 steal
2017 6’1” CF Cory Heiner: 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 blocks
2017 6’0” SG Dylan Schoffner: 8 points, 3 rebounds
2017 6’1” SG Heath Slabach: 5 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists
2017 5’9” CG Will Shepherd: 3 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist
Quick Thoughts:
2017 CG Francis Sio of Cox Mill has been given the chance to blossom and be the leader of this team this year and he is taking full advantage of it. The unsigned senior is averaging better than 15 points a game and took over the game from the very beginning as he started the game off with a three pointer, two steals, and a drawn charge. He has the looks of a great D2 kid and could play his way into Low-Major D1 status if he keeps this type of play up. Sio is only seeing interest from one school, Lees-McRae.
2019 G Caleb Stone-Carrawell of Cox Mill, son of Chris Carrawell, showed glimpses of his potential in the first half scoring 11 points and doing it from all three levels. He has great size at 6’5” and the potential is certainly there for him, if he can string some games together like this and gain some consistency and confidence this will be just another weapon to deal with on the Chargers loaded roster.
The lone bright spot on the night for Concord was 2019 6’5” WG Jalen O’Neal. He was finishing around the rim early and often and ran the floor extremely well. Slashing to the rim and getting to the line was where he did most of his damage and he should be a name to keep tabs on at Concord for the next few years.
Final Stats:
Cox Mill-83
2019 6’6” G/F Wendell Moore: 31 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
2017 6’0” CG Francis Sio: 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals
2019 6’5” G Caleb Stone-Carrawell: 12 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block
2017 6’1” SG Colin Noone: 7 points, 1 assist, 2 steals
2018 6’7” PF Tyzhaun Claude: 4 points, 7 rebounds
2017 6’3” F Jacari Johnson: 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
Concord-49
2019 6’5” WG Jalen O’Neal: 19 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal
2017 6’5” WG Hamsah Nasirildeen (South Carolina Football Commit): 11 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks
2017 6’3” CG Andrew Metcalf: 6 points, 6 rebounds
2020 6’4” SG Jackson Threadgill: 3 points
Quick Thoughts:
Even though Ledford loses key players like Cohen Bennett, Ian O’Toole, and McAllister Ingram after this season the future looks bright with 2020’s Jake Ledbetter (6’1” SG) and Jayden Barker (6’5” CF) looking like potential studs and the Panthers will also have Dan Gross, Robert Little, and Korey Jordan back on the floor next season as well.
West Davidson isn’t usually known for their basketball talents but the backcourt of Drew Wright and Scott Hughes looked very good tonight going against a tough-nosed opposing backcourt consisting of Cohen Bennett and Ian O’Toole. Wright is a Sophomore standing at just 5’10” while Hughes is probably one of the best Seniors in the area at 6’5” and being able to do a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor. Both can shoot it from deep, play smart, and have no issues finishing through contact.
Final Stats:
West Davidson-41
2019 5’10” CG Drew Wright: 16 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Steals
2017 6’5” CG Scott Hughes: 16 Points, 5 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 1 Steal, 2 Blocks
2017 6’3” CF CJ McKinney: 4 Points, 12 Rebounds
2018 6’0” CG Jake Adams: 3 Points, 4 Rebounds, 1 Assist
2018 6’6” PF Tyler Reamy: 2 Points, 8 Rebounds, 2 Blocks
Ledford-39
2020 6’5” CF Jayden Barker: 11 Points, 8 Rebounds, 1 Block
2020 6’1” SG Jake Ledbetter: 9 Points, 2 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Block
2017 5’9” SG Cohen Bennett: 7 Points, 3 Rebounds, 4 Steals
2017 6’0” G/F McAllister Ingram: 5 Points, 6 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 2 Steals
2018 6’2” G/F Dan Gross: 4 Points, 4 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 2 Steals

At the end of the night the deadly trio for NW Guilford of 2017 PG Jalen Spicer, 2017 F Reggie Davis, and 2018 SG Tre Turner proved to be way too much for Western Guilford. Midway through the 3rd quarter the game seemed to be wrapped up as the Vikings had opened up an 18 point lead, but then Dockery and Giles shot the ball at a ridiculous percentage the rest of the way and cut the lead all the way down to one in the 4th quarter. This is when Tre Turner turned on his clutch gene as he drained two threes in a row to open the lead back up late in the 4th and pull away for good.
2017 PG Jalen Spicer finished with 17 points, 12 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, while Reggie Davis hustled and scrapped his way to 21 points and 15 rebounds highlighted by two rim rattling dunks. The clutch machine Tre Turner finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists.
The unsung hero for NW Guilford on the night may have been senior guard Jaylen Gore (19 points, 6 assists) who was scoring early and often to get the Vikings out to a nice lead, which they never lost throughout the entirety of the game.
Western Guilford will look to bounce back when they Bartlett Yancey on Monday. The Vikings of NW Guilford will travel to Mt. Airy on Tuesday and put their undefeated record on the line when they take on North Surry.
I will be covering High Point Christian vs Carlisle (VA) tomorrow evening and will have stats and recap later tomorrow evening. So check back here at Future150 for updates on what should be an exciting game featuring two top tier PG’s going at it with 2016 Ty Graves of HPCA (BC commit) going head to head with top 10 2018 PG Rasir Bolton of Carlisle.
]]>2018 wing John Newman led the way for Greensboro Day scoring 18 points on 50% shooting from the field. While 2017 combo forward JP Moorman just missed out on a triple double for the Bengals putting up 9 points, 8 boards, & 11 dimes. But the most overall impressive effort may have come from Cannon School with 2018 SF Jairus Hamilton scoring 23 points, showing off ridiculous range and his abilities to score with tight coverage. The Team United product already lists three high major offers coming from Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
Another performance that caught my eye was 2017 PG Jordan Perkins of Greensboro Day. His stats were average finishing with 10 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds but he does so much more than the stats show. Perkins is a great vocal leader who always makes sure his team is doing what they need to in order to secure a win. His playmaking abilities and court vision are extremely underrated. He hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the deal. Once he develops a consistent jumper he may vault into the mold of a mid/high-major prospect.
2018 SG and Future150 Alum Will Dillard only scored 9 points, but was a dog on defense gathering multiple steals and smothering opposing starting guard Corey Deveaux who finished with just 11 points, most garnered from the free-throw line. Dillard has a chance to be special with his speed and athleticism on defense and ability to score from anywhere on the floor on offense.
Cannon School will try to bounce back when they take on Southlake Christian Academy on Friday night. While Greensboro Day will take on 2017 PG Michael Okauru and Ravenscroft on Friday evening.
I will be at Northwest Guilford (NC) on Thursday evening as the Vikings take on Western Guilford. Stay tuned for a recap on that one later Thursday night.
]]>On Tuesday evening, Coach Lon Kruger and the Oklahoma Sooners extended an offer out to the Junior.
“Oklahoma really loves me, they said I could (become) a big part of the program. All I know is Coach Kruger is running a (great) program, and I would feel comfortable playing under him,” Starks said.
The Sooners are the first power five school to offer Starks. He also has an offer from Southern University as well. Those two are definitely not the only ones who are interested in TJ’s services.
“I have been hearing a lot from Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Incarnate Word, Texas, Florida, and Louisiana Tech.”
It looks like TJ better buckle his seatbelt and hold on tight because his recruitment looks like it might start to blow up after picking up an offer from Oklahoma. Starks told me a few schools are already trying to get him on campus for unofficial visits.
“Incarnate Word and Southern University are looking to get me out on campus for a visit. Hopefully I’ll be able to get out there, and go visit other schools as well,” Starks said.
Follow along with Future150 as we continue to track TJ’s progress throughout his Junior year at Lancaster.
]]>Speaking of East Carolina, that was one of Godwin’s most recent visits and thing seemed to go pretty well.
“I was very impressed with Coach Lebo’s accomplishments, McDonalds All-American coming out of high school, four-year starter at North Carolina, etc.,” Godwin said.
Jeff Lebo is surely doing some good things down in Greenville, SC and seems to be off to a good start in pursuing Marquis.
“I loved the facilities and learned a couple things while observing practice. Overall it was a great visit.”
Furman was the other school that Marquis recently visited, this visit was probably a bit more open and personal considering they extended an offer to Godwin during his time on campus.
“Furman was the most beautiful campus I’ve been to so far during my recruiting process. The academic programs there are one of the best in the country, which is a very important factor to me,” Godwin told me.
The paladin’s are building a good reputation with a good mixture of high academics and athletics which is attracting kids who are looking for high academic levels, Furman is nipping at the heels of the guys like Harvard, Brown, and Yale.
“I really appreciate Coach Medved for offering me a scholarship to come and play at such a great university.”
Marquis certainly has a bright future ahead of him as one of the top SG’s in North Carolina in the 2017 class, he should expect many more schools to start recruiting him as he begins his junior season at Christ School. Godwin will be traveling to Clemson on November 7th for his next unofficial visit.
“I’m really looking forward to my Clemson visit!”
