Pelham, AL (Future150) -- Shooting is a skill sorely lacking in the current college game. Too many talented players enter college with inconsistent jump shots cloaked in raw athleticism.
Triston Chambers marries the two as the 6-foot-2 shooting guard proves potent time and time again.
After playing 2014 with the Alabama Challenge, Chambers moved over to the Bledsoe Ice. The Ice are a quick, guard-oriented team and Chambers is able to create off the dribble or shoot over defenses.
Chambers is still in the collection process, fitting for this month of April. The tax season is all about collections.
Developing relationships
Talented players who appear ready to work gain offers. Chambers has been on D1 radars for about 18 months now.
His lengthy recruitments enabled him to meet players, coaches, and visit campuses. His offer list shows off which teams are most aggressively after him.
"I have got Appalachian State, IUPUI, UAB, Samford, and Mercer," said Chambers.
That IUPUI offer might be off the table though, now that Reggie Tharp verbally committed to the Jaguars.
Georgia, Wichita State, and Troy are interested.
"I have talked to Troy a good bit," said Chambers. "But like South Alabama and some other schools have been on me."
Tennessee Tech Head Coach Steve Payne watched Triston light up the Sweet 16 Session I during the first LIVE period.
Chambers' play earned him a TTU offer.
Uncle Samford
Chambers is very clear that he does not have a favorite school just yet. Still there are a few interesting ties to Samford.
"Well, you know Coach Padgett and Coach Headrick they are a bunch of really good guys," said Chambers. "They have been on me for awhile now. I feel like they are family, but it is still up in the air right now what I want to do."
The guard visited Samford more than once.
"I think it is a beautiful campus," said Chambers. "They have top notch facilities, high major facilities. They are just a program waiting to really boom."
More than looking at the trees and buildings a campus visit can be the beginning of lifelong relationships. College teammates work through tough times together and often emerge very close.
The Alabama marksmen knows a couple of guys on the Samford squad pretty well.
"I know Gerald Smith," said Chambers. "He came from Carbon Hill. He is from right where I am at. I know a couple of them, just from going down there and meeting them."
Christen Cunningham is another Samford Bulldog that Chambers knows.
"We are pretty good friends too," said Chambers. "I have known him for about a year now. When they started recruiting him I met him there on a recruiting trip. We kind of hit it off good. We are good friends."
Do not assume Chambers will pick Samford. Again he is in the process of collecting offers, not eliminating them.
"It is not really much favoritism anywhere," reiterated Chambers. "There are still good friends at every college."
The recruiting minefield can be difficult to manage, but Chambers apparently has a good grasp of his priorities post high school.
"I will be honest with you, I would love to hear from every school," said Chambers. "I just want to keep playing. I don't want to stop after high school, so that is just my plan. There is really no favoritism for me. I just want to explore every option possible so I can get the best out of my career. Those four years after high school decide what you are going to do in life."
