New Haven, CT (Future150) --
This past weekend was the National Prep Showcase at Albertus Magnus College. The first major event of the high school season generally brings in top prep teams from around the nation, and with them plenty of talent. College coaches flocked to New Haven, Connecticut for the weekend in order to find the next breakout player, watch their recruits, and see who the next young star may be.

One player in particular proved that he will be a force for the next few years. 2017 point guard Tremont Waters of South Kent (CT) was superb all weekend. Despite standing at just 5-foot-9, he was able to take over during important stretches this weekend.

It is rare to see a player of Tremont’s age and size impose his will on a game like he did this weekend. His ability to run the offense without sacrificing any of his offense makes him hard to guard. He is shifty and gets to the rim with ease. If defenders give him space he is a threat to pull up and punish defenders from beyond the arc. Combine that with good vision and it’s not a stretch to say he comes from the Tyus Jones mold; although he has work to do if he has plans of being as good as the best point guard to come out of the high school ranks in the past year.

“Tremont Waters is special,” Team Scan coach Terrance “Munch” Williams said.  He isn’t the only one who believes so either. Right now he is ranked #15 in the Future150 rankings but should see a bump. While it is incredibly early, Waters has put in his bid for best point guard in his class.  After the NPS ended, Waters took a visit to UConn to watch the Huskies take on Loyola (MD).

The recruitment process has just begun for Tremont but it appears as though he will end up being a priority player in this class. With the way he plays it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the nation realizes he is one of the top freshmen in the country.
