Asheville, NC (Future150) -- Andrew Force contributed to this report.

Like Harvard, Boston University is another difficult college to attract elite players to.  High school hoops are swallowed up by high school hockey and pro everything in the Boston-region.

On top of that Boston University has lofty academic requirements, forcing them to eliminate a substantial chunk of basketball prospects immediately.

Wide Net

The Terriers of Boston have offered 20 players this cycle with hopes of signing three.

They need a pivot, a wing, and a point guard.  This would be the ideal class to begin rejuvenating a roster heavy on upperclassmen.

Options to occupy the PG spot include Jordan Shepherd, Dikymbe Martin, Jagan Mosely, Jair Bolden, and Jeff Dowtin.

Point Guard Targets

Jordan Shepherd picked apart the Kentucky Travelers defense all game long in the quarterfinals of Best of the South, and eventually hit the game winning layup, he did not look like a guy who only has twelve offers from low/mid-major schools.

"I'm always the first option to myself, but I know I can look for my teammates if I couldn't do it myself," said Shepherd.

Jordan always wants to be the best guy on the floor and win games.

He may be one of the smartest floor generals in his class. He always knows what to do with the ball in order to make the best play for the team, not himself.

He does not force shots. He knows if he is doubled, then someone has to be open. That always sounds simple, but in today's game more and more guards try to hit the crazy-forced fadeaway, turnaround jumper because it might look a little sexier if it falls in.

Shepherd led PSB Elite to the 17U semi-finals at the Best of the South tournament that came to a halt in a tough loss against the eventual champions, All Ohio Red.

"I'm definitely taking all my visits in August, so I can wait to see what I get out of July," said Shepherd.

Until he picks up a few "breakout" offers, Jordan does have a few schools he seems to favor.

"My recruitment is pretty wide open, but I do like Boston and Furman a lot."

Shepherd will be a complete steal if he ends going to any of the schools who are on his list now. The coaches recruiting him now probably know this as well, and have expressed to Jordan what they really like about him.

"(The coaches) really like me as a leader and my ability to defend well," said Shepherd.

Defense is another thing that people really tend to overlook.  Standing at 6-foot-3 with long arms, Shepherd can really get under his opponent's skin.

Another Mosely

Already educating older brother Cheddi, the Terriers offered Jagan.  It was nearly two years ago.  It would be shocking if Jagan is even considering Boston University, but he was offered and they would take him if committed.

Mosely has Big East and ACC offers in his pocket. The tough guard is pass-first.  He defends like a champion and plays with an uncommonly expansive basketball mind.

Mosely has an understated toughness that makes him a winning guard.

The three other targets on the Boston University Wish List play for great AAU programs.

Dikymbe Martin (Compton Magic) Jair Bolden (Team Final), and Jeff Dowtin (DC Blue Devils) all picked up Boston University offers.

Martin is from California, so his recruitment will require some impressive convincing from the Boston University staff.  They have the capabilities to land Cali players though.

It appears BU is trying to land players from four loaded recruiting regions: New Jersey, New England prep schools, Florida, and California/Arizona.

Bolden is a really smart player for Boston University to pursue.  He is a little less high-profile, but plays winning basketball.  Guards are measured by wins.

Bolden's offers are nice, but Boston University can definitely compete for his signature.

Shepherd is another player like Bolden.  He is very skilled and generally overlooked.

Shepherd is fantastic at applying pressure and getting his hands into the passing lanes to snatch away lazy passes.

The rest of the LIVE period could turn into a very special time for him.

And Boston University could use a special player like Shepherd on their bus.
