Indianapolis, IN (Future150) -- Normally 7th or 8th graders don’t gain a lot of attention from colleges at such a young age, but one boy is drawing a lot of attention from colleges with the excellent basketball skills he has already displayed.

Justin Roberts out of Indianapolis, Indiana is that young boy.  He is one of the top point guards overall in the class of 2017.

He is a 5-foot-10, 145 pound guard who plays for the Indy Hoosiers.

This young ball player has a lot skills ranging from his excellent speed and quickness to his amazing ball handling.  He possesses a good jump shot and doesn’t let the little things bother him.

His driving ability may be the best part of his game.  He easily breaks defenders down off the dribble and then uses his quickness to reach the basket with great ease.  He caps of the great drive with a strong finish at the rim.

All the many talents and skills that Roberts has obtained up to this point, is now beginning to help in gain interest from some of the top college programs in the nation.

“I have already been contacted by Indiana, Purdue, NC State, Illinois, Xavier, IPFW, Southern Illinois, and Memphis,” he provided.

That is a solid list, being that Roberts is just not going to be an 8th grader this upcoming season.

Even though there several are top colleges reaching out him to him this early, he still has some others that standout and that he would like to contact him in the future.

“I have high interest in Kentucky, Xavier, and Syracuse,” he informed.  “I like Kentucky and Xavier because they are close to home, plus all three are really good guard schools.”

There will be plenty of time to think about colleges when the time comes, for now Roberts wants to continue working on his game.

“Right now I would say my jump shot is something that needs the most work,” Roberts acknowledged.  “I am not known for being a shooter, but it is starting to improve.”

He also provided a nice comparison of his game to an NBA and college player.

“I like to think my games compares to NBA player Jeff Teague, because have the same positive and negatives in our game,” he advised.  “I also think my game relates to college player Scoop Jardine, because our personalities are similar we both like to have fun.”

Those are some pretty high comparisons for such a young athlete, but he plans to put in the work to be the best player he can be.

The plans are to attend as many camps as possible and work as hard it takes to accomplish all his goals.

Until it is time for more important decisions to be made, he will just continue to enjoy life as a kid.

“I like to be with family and friends, plus I am glad to be back in school.”

Why would you care if he was held back. People are everyday on purpose or not on purpose if that make sense. All that doesn’t matter. Hes in the right grade for his age. It does really seem like a little hating. Believe me college coaches dont care about any of that stuff. Their kids are redshirted all the time. If you only knew. He is the best PG in that 2017 class regardless.

Yes it’s true he was held back… Why does it matter if he was held back on purpose you ask? Because you give these high school/college coaches a false sense of skill set/athletic ability/you name it when you got older kids playing younger kids… Of course they’re going to stand out! Around 15 years of age is really when a boys body starts to develop and when you are in 7/8th grade playing against 12-14 yr olds, you dominate. Roberts has skills, I’ve seen him play MANY times, but it will be interesting to watch him play some BIG boys this year at Pike

Wow. I’m proud of this kid. He’s overcame a lot. Losing his mom at a young age. I knew he was special when he was young and evidently college coaches see it to. He’s doing great I see on varsity at his school. Let’s build kids up instead of tear them down. Life is too short.
