Upper Arlington, AL (Future150) -- With the spotlight on the newly renamed Jim Hamilton Court, the Upper Arlington Golden Bears were primed for a big home win as they hosted OCC-Central rival Hilliard Davidson.

That was all for naught, as the Wildcats pulled off an impressive road victory, stifling Upper Arlington 41-38 on Friday night. 2016 guard Max Huber led a balanced effort for Davidson, finishing with a team-high 11 points and four rebounds. Ohio State-commit Dane Goodwin had game-high 15 points for the Golden Bears, 9 of which came on his three triples.

The Wildcats trailed all the way throughout the opening half and into the third quarter, until a three-point play by senior center Nick Potts with 1:56 left in the frame. Potts was big for the ‘Cats in the second half, scoring 8 of his 10 points after the break.

Hilliard Davidson could only push the margin to three on multiple occasions, but had a chance to push the margin to two possessions late as Huber went to the line with :28.3 left. The junior could not connect on either attempt, and Arlington had one final chance to cut into the lead or tie the game. Davidson’s defense was just too much, and junior Gabe Akins could only muster up a lean-in three with five seconds left that fell short.

The biggest margin between the two teams came just moments in, as Upper Arlington raced out to a 10-2 margin behind back-to-back threes from Goodwin. That would be the only points for the freshman in the half, as Davidson limited his touches of the basketball in a variety of ways.

In the second quarter it was not just the Davidson defense that was on another level, as both teams ratcheted up the defensive effort. The two teams combined for just eight points over the eight minutes in the frame, with Upper Arlington leading 19-14 going into the break.

With the victory, Hilliard Davidson moves back to .500 at 2-2 and 2-1 in the OCC-Central, while Upper Arlington falls to 3-2 overall, and 2-1 in league play.
