Tuscaloosa, AL (Future150) -- Future150 has just launched a story series that will profile influential AAU basketball programs around the Southeast. The series of stories will give in cite to the background of people leading the programs and the players who apart of it.
Today's program thats first on the list is the Alabama Stars who hails from the city of Tuscaloosa. The program director is none other than Brandon Bolden who is a native of Tuscaloosa, AL. Future150 caught up with Mr. Bolden this week and was able to interview him about his new AAU program.
When asked about his program's mission statement, here is what Brandon Bolden had to say. "The Alabama Stars was created to give the kids of Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas an opportunity to develop, prepare and grow as young men." I played AAU basketball in high school and I know how hard it was to get an opportunity to be seen and get a scholarship so my main goal was to give back to the community.
Mr. Bolden went on to talk about the high schools he recruits from which are Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, Northridge, Central Tuscaloosa, Paul W Bryant just to name a few. He also listed his coaching staff which consisted of Coach Corey Moore, who is a middle school coach David Emerson. Coach Moore has multiple years of coaching experience. His goal is to be a positive influence, build character and discipline on the young men not only in coaching but as a mentor as well.
Now let's take a look at a few of the Alabama Stars top players in the program and their skill sets.
2024 SG Jacob Johnson (Alabama Stars Black) of Paul W Bryant is 6-foot tall and can score the basketball in bunches. His ability to get to his spots and score in transition is what makes him special. Leadership, shot making and over all team player is what stands out when you watch this Tuscaloosa native play the game. Johnson is looking to have a big showing in Atlanta this weekend. 2024 SF King Larkin (Alabama Stars Black) of Central Tuscaloosa is a 6-foot-5 inch do it all type player. He can score on all three levels and makes it look easy while doing it. On ball defense, elite rebounder and the lost art of the mid range jumper are traits that make Larkin stand out. Coaches will love this prospects all around game and leadership qualities. 2024 SF Deondre Grant (Alabama Stars Red) of Central Tuscaloosa is a 6-foot-4 inch well round basketball player who makes plays on both ends of the floor. His coahes and teammates would describe him as Mr. Hustle and someone who gets the job done. Coach Bolden described him as the glue of the team. Projection: D3 and NAIA
2026 CF Jordan Simmons (Alabama Stars) of Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa is a 6-foot-3.5 inch forward who makes his living on defense. His versaitily, length and athleticism allows him to play and guard multiple positions on the floor. His coach called him the player every coach wants on their team Mr. Glue. As his shot continues to develop and his skill level catches up, look for this prospect to make a huge jump over the next 6-9 months.
2026 SG Corey Moore (Alabama Stars) of Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa is a 6-foot scoring guard who loves filling it up from beyond the arc. He can play both guard position and defend them as well. Moore loves scoring on the fastbreak and has the court vision to make those around him better when he has the ball in his hands.
Overall the Alabama Stars have a bright future in the city of Tuscaloosa and with it being their first year, the sky is the limit for this young program. Future150 would like to thank Program Director Brandon Bolden for his time and allowing everyone a inside look in to the Alabama Stars Program.
