Dallas, TX (Future150) -- It's no secret that the state of Texas is not just about prep football anymore. These days, many of the top high school basketball players each year are coming out of the state, most noteably the cities of Dallas and Houston.
In the current senior class, Julius Randle of Plano is arguably the best prospect in the 2013 class nationwide.
Not only are there several other national names in the senior class in the state, but the junior, sophomore, and freshman classes are all loaded with talent as well.
With so much talent in the city of Dallas, it's easy to get overlooked. Just ask Rick Curry, a 6'8", 240-pound power forward who plays for South Grand Prairie High School.
The southpaw, a Top 20 All-Star at our loaded Future150 Dallas Camp this past fall has his team out to a 21-2 record so far this season.
For his Warriors, he has been a big force in the paint, averaging roughly nine points and seven rebounds per contest.
A powerful forward in the mold of Memphis Grizzlies star Zach Randolph, the brusing big man has solid post moves, good footwork, and a soft touch on his jump shot.
Some of the schools that have noticed the skill level of Curry are Oklahoma,Texas A&M, Creighton, Kansas, Virginia Tech, TCU, Colorado State, Indiana State,Wichita State, and Nebraska.
While no schools have offered scholarships to him yet, it's only a matter of time.
"I want to win a state championship, develop, and get better during AAU season," he told Future150 this past week.
When we asked him who he believed were some of the best prospects in Dallas, he was quick to rattle off "Julius Randle, Emmanuel Mudiay,Jordan Mickey, Karviar Shepherd, Matt Jones, and Keith Frazier."
Surprisingly, when I asked him who he thought was the best prospect in the entire city, he was sold on Mudiay, the explosive junior point guard.
By this time next season, look for the name Rick Curry to be included in a list of the top seniors in not only Big D, but the entire state of Texas.
