Greensboro Day (NC) defeated Cannon School on Tuesday evening by the score of 71-63.
2018 wing John Newman led the way for Greensboro Day scoring 18 points on 50% shooting from the field. While 2017 combo forward JP Moorman just missed out on a triple double for the Bengals putting up 9 points, 8 boards, & 11 dimes. But the most overall impressive effort may have come from Cannon School with 2018 SF Jairus Hamilton scoring 23 points, showing off ridiculous range and his abilities to score with tight coverage. The Team United product already lists three high major offers coming from Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
Another performance that caught my eye was 2017 PG Jordan Perkins of Greensboro Day. His stats were average finishing with 10 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds but he does so much more than the stats show. Perkins is a great vocal leader who always makes sure his team is doing what they need to in order to secure a win. His playmaking abilities and court vision are extremely underrated. He hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the deal. Once he develops a consistent jumper he may vault into the mold of a mid/high-major prospect.
2018 SG and Future150 Alum Will Dillard only scored 9 points, but was a dog on defense gathering multiple steals and smothering opposing starting guard Corey Deveaux who finished with just 11 points, most garnered from the free-throw line. Dillard has a chance to be special with his speed and athleticism on defense and ability to score from anywhere on the floor on offense.
Cannon School will try to bounce back when they take on Southlake Christian Academy on Friday night. While Greensboro Day will take on 2017 PG Michael Okauru and Ravenscroft on Friday evening.
I will be at Northwest Guilford (NC) on Thursday evening as the Vikings take on Western Guilford. Stay tuned for a recap on that one later Thursday night.
