Future150 Staff thought that players should take a hard look at their academics due to the harsh reality of scholarships available.  Take a look at the statistics below when it comes to high school seniors trying to get a basketball scholarship.

Boys High School Basketball Seniors in America: 156,096 (546,335 total HS basketball players)

NCAA Freshman Positions: 4,735

Percentage of HS players who earn a NCAA scholarship: 3.0%

Only 1.2% of college basketball players make it to the NBA

0.03% go from HS to the Pros. (not necessarily the NBA but after 19 years of age)

Amazing stats. The avg exposure tournament can have 200 to 300 team’s participating.  The avg team carries 10 players per team. That’s 3000 players being scouted at an exposure event. If you use the 3%, that’s only 90 players potentially in that exposure tournament, who get a scholarship.

I agree with you Kirk2y….thats why at most AAU tournaments they only feature the premier teams that are supposed to have the premier players.  Thats why ESPN, Rivals, Scout, and 247 Sports only cater to those kids.  Due to these statistics is why Future150 exists.  We are trying to give players the chance to be seen and prove that they have the skills to play college basketball at some level.

As a coach, we tell our parents to make contact with potential schools, and be realistic about the players level of play and let the schools know what exposure tournaments you’re going to be participating in. Because if you’re not on that premier travel club, you may go unnoticed at the exposure tournament!
