Quick Recap:
R.J. Reynolds high school held off a late rally from Davie County and took a tough 74-70 road win back to Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesday night. This was a game of runs as Reynolds would extend the lead to 10-14 points, then Davie County would storm right back to tie or get it within one possession. Davie County did have a chance to tie the game with nine seconds left, down by three but ultimately fell short. Reynolds was led by their senior PG Arion Broadnax and had some major contributions from 2018 SG Ian Henderson, 2018 WF Naseer Clemmons, and 2017 CF Xavier Coles. Henderson scored all 11 of his points in the first half while Clemmons and Coles major contributions came late in the game. A tough loss for Davie County, their first of the season, despite big time performances from 2019 WG Michael Walton and 2019 CF Owen McCormack. Next up for Reynolds will be another road game at Parkland high school on Friday night. Davie County will be jumping on the road for their next game as well as they take on Ronald Reagan high school out of Pfafftown, NC on Friday night.

Quick Thoughts:
The pair of 2019’s on Davie County have loads of potential. 2019 Owen McCormack is 6’7” CF with a sweet stroke from the three point line, good rebounding abilities, and a great sense for rim protection. While 2019 Michael Walton is a 6’3” wing guard with fantastic handling and slashing abilities that allow him to get to the basket in the blink of an eye. Definitely should keep an eye out for these two in the Mocksville/Salisbury area.

2017 CG Arion Broadnax is a straight killer for Reynolds high school. Now as a senior he has firmly taken over the role as his team’s main leader, and is never afraid of the big moment. D2/NAIA schools would definitely be wise to give this kid a look.

Even though Reynolds will lose key seniors in Arion Broadnax and Xavier Coles, they are in good hands with 2018’s Ian Henderson, Naseer Clemmons, Trevis Murphy, and Jayshawn Hawkins. Keep an eye on Henderson and Clemmons as both have potential to extend their basketball playing days beyond high school.
