Detroit, MI (Future150) -- Jr.Future150 first caught a glimpse of 2019 forward Romeo Weems standing out at the AAU Nationals this past July. He exudes potential, especially as a versatile forward. He was the main leader on the floor for The Family AAU program out of Detroit. He was effortlessly scoring inside, outside, and attacking the basket on the fast break.
If he grows like his genes predict, at 6-foot-3 inches now, Weems may grow to 6-foot-6 inches and will be a match up nightmare on both ends of the floor.
The Detroit-native, Weems broke single-season records in points, steals, and blocks. Even so Weems feels there is still a lot to work on in his game.
"I mainly need to improve on my shot and handles, but the rest of my game needs work as I'm not a finished product," Weems said. "My strengths are my athleticism and rebounding, but I can always get better at that."
He plays for Coach Chuck Bailey and The Family. Weems views the organization as a whole for a big part of his development.
"(Coach Bailey) has taught me a lot of the basics and I have gotten better playing for him," Weems said. " Also my teammates and the team in general I like playing with, so that's why I play for The Family."
Weems is not currently ranked in the Future150 rankings for 2019, but that does not stop him from working to his goals.
"Being ranked would be nice, but it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to get better and all that will come," Weems said. "There is always room for improvement for me."
Look for him to make a splash in the next national rankings update coming out later this month.
