Atlanta, GA (Future150) -- The 2016 Future150 Elite24 Camp kicked off action on Saturday morning, and prospects were looking to follow in the footsteps of previous camp stars such as Wendell Carter, Trae Young, Javonte Smart & Chandler Lawson.
After an initial adjustment period to the high level of competition at the camp, several 2020 & 2021 prospects rose to the occassion and put together a strong Saturday in front of Future150 staff.
Louisiana Point Guard La'Vell Scott Blows Up
Coming into the camp, 2020 point guard La'Vell Scott was nowhere on our radar. That's not the case anymore. The 6-footer was destroying anyone and everyone in his path during game action, putting on an absolute shooting clinic. Regardless if he was shooting on the catch, off-the-dribble, with a hand in his face, or pulling up in transition, the majority of his shots hit nothing but the bottom of the net. Expect his name to become a very hot one in the Pelican State going forward.
Texas Wing Dominant From The Opening Tip
Another dominant prospect from the get-go was 6'5" Dallas wing Cade Cunningham. An exceptional athlete with advanced offensive skills, he was able to get anything he wanted when attacking the basket at camp. He also showed that he can knock down perimeter jump shots consistently, and played within the team concept while encouraging his teammates as a leader. Expect his stock to rise in the state of Texas heading into his first season of high school basketball.
South Carolina PG Seeing His Stock Rise
In the 2021 class, there can't be many floor generals who are as polished right now as Tyler Rice is. The 5'10" prospect flies under-the-radar with the Central Carolina Force on the AAU circuit, but that won't last for much longer. A smooth and skilled guard with blow-by speed in the open floor, he operates well in tight spaces and finds teammates in excellent scoring spots. Expect his stock to continue to rise as he grows and matures.
Other Saturday Standouts:
Marvin Hughes, 2020 CG: The physical 6'1" combo guard was showing his ability to score the basketball on all three levels on Saturday. His goal coming into camp was to prove that his name translated beyond the state lines of Tennessee, and the Nashville prospect did an excellent job of showing his takeover ability, and we expect more of that on Sunday.
Shannon Lowery, 2021 SF: The ceiling is so high for the 6'3" Texas wing, that we leave each of his games wanting to see more. On Saturday, he was a monster on the glass, and finished well around the rim. On Sunday, we expect to see more of his perimeter skill, which he showed flashes of today.
Antoine Parker, 2020 SF: An unknown coming into the camp, the South Carolina athlete had the highest motor of any camper that we evaluated today. He took advantage of his opportunities, scoring on putbacks, rebounded like an animal on both ends of the floor, and blocked a plethora of shots.
Drew Carter, 2021 CG: Traveling to camp all the way from Portland, Oregon, the 6'1" combo guard showcased his versatile game and stood out when competing with his grade-level. He scored when slashing to the basket, as well as from the perimeter. He also showed that he can play the lead guard spot with ease, keeping his turnovers low on day one.
