Gilbert, AZ (Future150) -- Syracuse freshman point guard Tyler Ennis gained even more national acclaim on Wednesday night with a game-winning, buzzer-beating shot versus Pittsburgh to keep the Orange undefeated on the season.
But Ennis wasn't the only freshman guard to accomplish the feat.
In Arizona, fast-rising freshman point guard Markus Howard of Perry High School in Gilbert scored on his team's final possession in overtime, lifting them to a 62-61 victory versus Westview High School of Avondale.
The win moves Gilbert Perry from the super-sectionals into the state's sectional semifinal on Friday against Phoenix Central.
"We spread the floor and gave it to [Markus] Howard," Perry head coach Joe Babinski told AZCentral.com. "We wanted him to penetrate and pitch off if not open. We had all shooters on the floor at the time."
Howard's 33 point performance garnered a comparison to current NBA guard, and former Phoenix St. Mary's player Jerryd Bayless, from Westview head coach Brendan McEvoy following the game.
It's been a season full of memorable performances from Howard, while playing alongside his senior brother Jordan, as the pair of siblings continue to march toward their goal of a state title.
The younger Howard, who won't turn fifteen years old until March, appears well on his way to becoming one of the most sought-after lead guards in the country for the Class of 2017.
On the brink of JrFuture150.com's recent National Top 25 list, remember the name Markus Howard, as he is easily near the top of a deep and talented point guard group in the 2017 class at this time.
