Houston, TX (Future150) -- The 14U division at the Future150 Main Event Houston was competitive to say the least, and featured some big time rising freshmen. Scholar Athletes Select (Gold Division), FYN All-Stars Orange (Silver Division), and Shadow Creek Shooting Stars Gray (Bronze Division) took home their divisional chamiponships on Sunday. Here are the top prospects from the weekend:
Connor Miller, 2022 SG, Houston Hurricanes (TX): Miller was one of the biggest standouts on night one of the tournament, lighting it up from deep and making plays happen with his court vision. Playing up, it was impressive to see Miller have a few standout games this weekend and there's no doubt he would of been one of the best players had he played in the 13U division with players his age.
Jack Witmer, 2021 C, TBT Sports Disciples Black (TX): The 6'5" big man was a dominant force in the 14U age group throughout the weekend. He controlled the glass on both ends of the floor and scored with ease around the rim. On the defensive end, he blocked shots and made it hard for opposing bigs to score around or above him.
DeWayne Smith, 2021 F/C, HoB Warriors (TX): Smith was a beast on the glass throughout the weekend and got up and down the floor extremely well for a big man. Having plenty of shooters on his squad, he played his role well scoring around the rim and was responsible for many second chance buckets and scoring oppurtunities. Assuming Smith can grow another three inches or so, he could turn out to be a very nice power forward prospect.
Sam Akinrelere, 2022 SF, Super Stars Elite (TX): Playing up an age group, the physical small forward prospect was a force on both ends of the floor. At 6'0", he's an athletic slasher who has no problem finishing around the rim. On the defensive end, he locks up on every possession, creating turnovers with ease.
Ablasse Ouedraogo, 2021 CF, Scholar Athletes Select (TX): Ouedraogo was huge for his squad on championship Sunday. Protecting the paint, rebounding on both ends, and being a nice scoring presence in the paint is a huge reason the Scholar Athletes took home the 14U gold division title. As a rising freshman, Ouedraogo needs to keep developing his skill set and stay in the weight room. If he grows a few more inches he will be a big problem to deal with during his high school years.
Davante Miller, 2021 SG, Louisiana Bulls (LA): The athletic 5'6" combo guard was very effective when getting to the rim this past weekend. He was a bit short-handed with a few of his teammates not able to make the trip to Houston, so had shouldered the load on both ends of the floor, and did an admirable job in doing so.
Ross Hinjosa, 2021 F/C, TNBA (TX): Even though he's a little undersized for his position at his age, standing just over six foot, Hinjosa does a good job of protecting the rim and using his strong frame to box out. Some work still needs to be done with his footwork down low, but he definitely made his presence known on defense and on the glass while collecting a handful of buckets around the basket and at the free-throw line as well.
Jamere Thornton, 2021 PG, HoB Warriors (TX): The 5'8" point guard plays with swagger at all times on the floor, and was impressive with his ability to finish against much bigger defenders in the painted area. While he's certainly effective when running the offense, his bread-and-butter is his ability to score the basketball.
Jordan Scott, 2021 C, Shadow Creek Shooting Stars Gray (TX): One of the most physically imposing frontcourt players in the 14U divison. Standing nearly 6'3" with length and a strong frame, Scott muscled his way to plenty of buckets on offense. He showed good back-to- the-basket skills and could be a force to be reckoned with in the high school divisions in the years to come.
Anas Rombok, 2021 PG, RL9 Red (TX): The leader for his team all weekend was the 5'8" floor general. He's a fearless attacker on the offensive end and is a leader on the defensive end as well. His offensive skills let him score the ball with ease whether he's attacking the rim or knocking down jump shots.
Gage Larvadain, 2021 PG, Louisiana Heat Elite (LA): Larvadain was a pest on defense and was hard to stay in front of on the offensive end. Racking up steals and getting to the free throw line on a consistent basis was how he impacted the game whenever he was on the floor. Only standing around 5'4" though, he will need to grow and develop more once he starts playing high school basketball.
Remond O'Neal Jr., 2021 SG, Waco Hawks (TX): A strong-bodied 5'11" combo guard, the Tennyson Middle School (TX) prospect spent time at both the point guard and shooting guard spots over the weekend. He was a capable scorer, especially on driving opportunities, and played intense on-ball defense as well.
Deon Atkins, 2021 SG, Missouri City Ballers (TX): Atkins showed the ability to score from all three levels and rebounded the ball well for a 5'10" guard. Once he adds some more muscle to his frame and is more comfortable with driving and playing through contact, he could be a really good all-around shooting guard.
Dwayne Bailey, 2021 SG, TBT Sports Disciples Silver (TX): Splitting time between both TBT Sports Disciples 14U teams over the weekend, the 5'11" wing was one of the most impressive slashers in the division. The lefty is a punishing attacker and defender who loves to get out in transition for easy bucket opportunities.
Anthony Miller, 2021 SF, Texas Jazz Elite (TX): The 5'11" wing showed good footwork around the rim and used his soft touch to his advantage on scoring opportunities around the rim. He also showed that he has a nose for the ball, repeatedly gaining second and third chance opportunities for himself and his teammates.
Giovanni Pierrot, 2021 SF, Texas Inferno (TX): We're not sure we saw a more competitive prospect in the 14U division than the 5'9" wing, who was an intense competitor on both ends of the floor. A lockdown defender and punishing slasher, he did everything he could to help his team win games in Houston.
Lucian Paul, 2021 SG, Shadow Creek Shooting Stars Navy (TX): The 5'8" southpaw found creative ways to score all weekend long by picking his spots well on the offensive end of the floor. Not only was he able to score around the rim and in transition, but he knocked down some perimeter jumpers as well, keeping the defense honest.
Deontay Young, 2021 Wing, FYN All-Stars Orange (TX): In the two games that we viewed him intensely, he came away as the most impressive prospect on his team, scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively. He is a prospect who can score the basketball on all three levels and is a willing defender as well.
Elijah Miller, 2021 PG, RL9 Grey (TX): The 5'7" floor general was a pure point guard prospect. He never forced the issue on offense and picked his spots wisely when both distributing and scoring. In one game, we watched him take over for his team, scoring 14 points in a win. In another, he distributed the ball and commanded the offense while letting his teammates carry the scoring load.
Marion Williams, 2021 PG, FYN All-Stars Black (TX): A strong 5'6" point guard, he was one of the better transition prospects we viewed in the 14U division. He used his end-to-end speed to his advantage, getting him several easy points on runouts. He's fearless when attacking the rim and showed that he's a willing defender as well.
