Houston, TX (Future150) -- The 14U division for the Future150 Easter Showcase possessed some of the top young talent Houston had to offer. With a few 8th grade teams playing up, the staff got to see how younger players got to adjust to the speed of the game. The champions were the Shooting Stars as they defeated KDC Elite 2021 73-46 on Sunday.
Wesley Sellers, G 2020 - Shooting Stars: Sellers is a scoring machine and put up 26 points in the championship game. His ability to score off the bounce made him pretty much impossible to stop throughout the tournament. He is a solid on ball defender and can handle the ball. His play making ability is advanced for a player his age.
Tevante Hayes, G 2020 - Shooting Stars: Like his teammate Sellers, Hayes carried the bulk of the scoring for his team. He can score on all three levels and has a good feel for the game.Hayes is also an unselfish player who knows how to create for his teammates as well.
David Martinez, G 2021 - KDC Elite: Martinez can flat out shoot the ball and made shots from well beyond the arc. He led his 2021 group to the championship game in the 8th grade division which is impressive. His ball handling was decent, but he will need to improve there if he is going to play point guard down the road. Martinez is unselfish with the ball as well and he showed that he will pass up a good shot for a great one from his teammates.
Dadrain Leeks, F 2020 - Sugarland Phenoms: Leeks is "Mr. Hustle" and was all over the floor Easter weekend. During Pool play, he had 11 points and 19 rebounds in a game. His ability to rebound the ball on both the offensive and defensive ends of he floor was a gamechanger for his team. He showed good half court vision, finding his open teams as well. He certainly has a bright future ahead of him.
Daniel Amante, G 2020 - Sugarland Phenoms: Amante is a sweet-shooting guard who keep his teams in games thanks to his ability to stretch defenses. He made a handful of nice passes throughout the weekend, but it was his shooting ability that made him a standout performer.
Marcus Williams, PG 2020 - RL9- Williams is a shifty guard that knows how to create off the dribble. He is a little undersized, but plays fearless and has no problem taking the ball at bigger defenders. Williams got into a zone on numerous occasions on Easter weekend, and when that happened, no one was able to slow him down.
