Powder Springs, GA (Future150) -- Future150's Atlanta Easter Showcase featured a few sizable 13u squads. Toneari Lane (6'2") of EOTO; Myles Hinton (6'3") of Georgia Stars were impressive. The Montgomery Fire brought dynamic duo Antwan Burnett at 6'1", and Rongie Gordon at 6'2".
The semi-final game for EOTO was an intense match up against intrastate rival Georgia Stars. The game went down to the wire with EOTO coming out on top. They met a big and athletic Montgomery Fire team that ended up the 13u Champions in a hard fought battle. Montgomery Fire won the championship game 48-44.
Here are some of the top players from this weekend:
Antwan Burnett, 2020 SG, Montgomery Fire: Antwan was a man amongst boys this weekend. The 6'1" scoring guard used his man-like frame to impose his will on smaller defenders. He showed the ability to score on all three levels with consistency. Though he was more than capable of creating in the half court, Antwan’s bread was buttered in transition. He received an easy start on the break from his teammate Rongie Gordon's outlet passes.
Rongie Gordon, 2020 PF, Montgomery Fire: Gordon is a 6'2" agile big man that dominated the boards on both ends of the floor. His play in the championship game is what really propelled the Montgomery Fire to the win. He used his size and athleticism to make plays at the basket with contact. These two were a tough 1-2 combo that ended up being just enough to win the championship.
Toneari Lane, 2020 CF, EOTO: Toneari was probably the best player in this talented age group. The lefty came close to 30 points in more than a few games and did so without forcing shots. He’s a very good rebounder and easily averaged a double-double against teams that had a size advantage. Toneari get most of his points in the paint, but when he adds more perimeter skills to his game he will be that much harder to stop.
Jordan Johnson, 2020 PG, EOTO: Jordan played well for the EOTO team that made it to the championship. He’s a quick guard with good ball handling skills. He also has the ability to break his man down, get to the basket and finish. With his size, speed, and ball handling, Jordan can really be an elite guard in Georgia for years to come.
Kaleb Jenkins, 2020 CG, Georgia Stars: Jenkins played just as well as he did during the Future150 Atlanta Underclassmen Camp. He can simply shoot it. He doesn’t need much room and he created for himself. Kaleb was instant offense for his team and can score in bunches.
Julius Reynolds, 2020 PG, Georgia Stars: Julius is as tough as they come. He played really good defense and does all the things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. He was the leader for a very talented Georgia Stars team. Reynolds has good ball handling skills that allow him to get to the rim, where he finishes very well. He had a good weekend, but they came up short in a close battle against EOTO.
Mike Davis Jr., 2020 SG, Montgomery Fire White: Mike showed a sweet shooting stroke that most kids his age just don’t possess. Anytime he had room to set his feet the shot had a good chance of going in. In transition he got out and made himself a target.
Myles Hinton, 2020 C, Georgia Stars: The big man moved very well at his size and showed some promise. Smaller defenders do not stand a chance when he gets good position.
