The D-Town Round Ball Classic was held at the Advanced Sports Complex in Carrollton, TX. PrimeTime Sports was the host and Future150 was back once again looking for young, talented prospects in the 2019-2020 classes.
Saturday morning got off to a hot start and the afternoon followed suit with some Future150 Camp alums and other familiar faces performing well.
Here are the top performers from Saturday's play.
Anthony Taylor- PG 2020, Shreveport Gators: Smith is a pass-first point guard with elite handles for player his age. He uses the dribble to break down his defender and either score or drop a dime to one of his teammates. If he plays well, then his team usually wins. As he looks to score more and gets stronger his game will go to the next level.
Cooper Smith- PG 2020, Canton Eagles: Smith was one of the more skilled and fundamental point guards we saw all day. He showed great feel and good ball handling skills. At this point in his game he scores in transition and from the 3-point line. He has a little wiggle in his game that can cause him to get in trouble at times. Overall his game is solid and he makes his teammates better.
Cori Lewis- PG 2020, Tulsa Wildcats: Lewis has a nice frame. In addition he has strong and really quick hands. He is a great on-ball defender and his size allows him to guard multiple positions. His ability to score on all three levels makes him hard to defend, especially in transition. "Competitor" comes to mind when you sum up his game in one word.
Micah Jernigan- 2020 SG, Sheveport Gators: Jernigan had a huge second game in pool play, scoring 19 points in a tough loss. He was scoring on the fastbreak, at the free throw line, and making 3-point bombs. Defense and rebounding from the wing make him a tough player to keep off the floor. Solid performance overall.
Everitt Rogers- 2020 PF, Centex Elite Soldiers: Rogers is 6-foot-1 inches and has a body far beyond his years. The one thing he does do well is rebound on the offensive end. His big body allows him to create space when scoring in the paint. He had the play of the game when he got a huge rebound off a FT line miss. The sparkling play vaulted his team to a 4-point win.
Jacob Giunta, 2019 SF, Cardinals: It was great to see a familiar face in Giunta. Judging by Saturday's performance it is clear Giunta is ready to dominate the JV level, if not compete for a varsity spot at Fort Worth Christian High. Giunta has several impressive physical attributes. Standing 6'4" the combo forward consistently displays deadly outside shooting touch. The crossover is nearly perfected. And the energy never dips.
Trey Jordan, 2019 PF, Mansfield Trojans: Already 6-foot-2 inches, Jordan moves with encouraging mobility. His natural position is either forward spot. Even in the post Jordan is light on his feet. He does not bite on fakes, but blocks many shots. Defending the wing is not an option just yet, but Jordan projects as a spot-up four man.
Karhan Jones, 2019 PG, Mansfield Trojans: The Trojans won with athletes. When skill was needed Jones entered the picture. A true jet with the ball, Jones gets from end to end very quickly. He did not show off any perimeter shooting, but that is an obvious place to evolve his game.
Keyshawn Holmes, 2019 C, Mansfield Trojans: Judging the future of Holmes is a bit presumptuous. He is still growing into his body and looks to be unfinished. The reason he earned his way on this list is twofold. Holmes has decent low post footwork despite being in the middle of a growth spurt and he demands the ball while posting constantly. It is so hard to invoke high effort from young bigs. With Holmes there is no need to prod because he already invests.
KD Arnett, 2019 PF, Arkansas Wings Elite: He is a power forward who displayed multiple abilities. The one that stuck out the most was his ability to to strech the floor offensively. He made shots both inside and out. He made his living on offensive rebounds and put backs. You gotta love a player that plays as hard as he does.
Branton McCrary, 2019 SG, Arkansas Wings Elite: Wings Elite is motored by McCrary, Darius Thompson, and Christian Williams. The high pressure defense from this trio of guards leads to many easy buckets. McCrary finishes very, very well in traffic. He can both jump and twist mid-flight. A shining star needs to be placed next his floater in the scouting report.
Greg Johnson, 2019 C, Arkansas Wings Elite: Not one team had an answer for the 6-foot-3 incoming freshman. Johnson will be funneled through Little Rock Central and undoubtedly come out the other side with a college paperwork signed. Johnson runs the floor well. He can defend the 4-5 spots. With the proper big man instruction he could become a high major contributor, possibly even impact player.
Darius Thompson, 2019 PG, Arkansas Wings Elite: Thompson is the kind of lead guard that thrives on competition. When the opponent is clearly inferior his mind tends to drift. As he matures Thompson will have to treat every opponent equally. Still he wins basketball games and he wins a lot. Thompson has a strong grasp of the defensive responsibilities of every one on the floor. He loves to trap and gets his hands in the middle of everything. Thompson can be a college guard with the proper development.
Oscar Adaway, 2019 SF, Arkansas Wings Elite: Adaway plays very physical. The Wings trapped and created problems with the defensive pressure. Adaway essentially denied outlet passes. His anticipatory nature proved incredibly disruptive. Adaway will at least be integral to winning high school games. With a little outside shooting mixed in he could ascend beyond.
Notable 2021 Players
Tumaini Olang- PF 2021, Hoop Kings: Olang is one of the more intriguing prospects we saw in the 2021 class due to his size. At 6-foot-1 inches, he is long, lanky, and imposing. He can rebound well on both ends and makes his living on put backs. As his aggression grows, so will his game.
Cameron Smith-SF 2021, Texas Gators Elite: Smith is a do-it-all type player. He can play the 1-5 and makes it look easy while doing it. His dribbling ability allows him to play the guard position and his size allows him to post smaller players. His passing ability might be his best attribute to date. Solid performance today.
