Nashville, TN (Future150) -- When taking a look at the national class of 2018, it's easy to anoint the honor of top prospect to Arizona phenom Marvin Bagley, who has been a dominant force for over three years now. However, one Florida prospect has quickly closed the gap on him.

E.J. Montgomery mirrors Bagley in not only size, but skill as well. The 6-foot-9 combo forward has been spending the spring raising eyebrows playing with the loaded 17U Atlanta Celtics team, and has been putting in work in the process.

Future150 had a chance to see him square up against several highly ranked prospects at the Adidas Gauntlet Orlando, and he impressed us with his poise and skill level. He didn't back down from much older, seasoned prospects and showed that he can without a doubt take control of the #1 spot in the class over the next few months.

Already an excellent rebounder and finisher around the rim, Montgomery is also a gifted outlet passer and has good ball skills for a prospect so big.

A few weeks back, it was also announced that he will be attending Montverde Academy (FL) next year, one of the best prep programs in the country. Expect E.J. to not only hold his own in July while playing 17U basketball, but to also make waves this upcoming high school season playing a national schedule.

However, much before then, he could already be sitting as the #1 prospect in 2018. Only time will tell.
