Sacramento, CA (Future150) -- Getting a college scholarship offer is normal for good ball players in high school, but it is very uncommon for middle school kids.
Elishja Duplechan a 5-foot-10 point guard out of Sacramento, California is one of the rare players in middle school to receive a scholarship offer at an early age.
Even though he is only in the class of 2017, he still plays like a seasoned veteran. He gave the following statement.
“I have been fortunate to have received a scholarship offer from the University of Memphis courtesy of Head Coach Josh Pastner,” he provided.
This is a monumental achievement for such a young ball player, but he has worked hard to get there.
Duplechan has the making of being a real special player one day.
He is practically a complete player now and can about do it all the basketball court. He handles the ball very well, has excellent on ball defense, and makes pull-up shots relatively easy.
Although we all know he is very skilled and can dominate on the floor, he still wants to continue to get better on the ball court.
“My weakness is successfully blocking shots and boxing out,” he advised. “I'm working on becoming more skilled as a rebounding point guard.”
Being a better rebounder and becoming more physical will help raise his game to the next level. He also has in mind another trait he would like to work on to improve his game.
“I want to improve on being more communicative while on the court,” Duplechan added. “This will allow me to grow in leadership.”
With all the great abilities he has now and the traits he wants to improve on, the sky is the limit for Duplechan.
Since he has talent and Memphis has offered him a scholarship, all things seem to becoming together like a dream you could say.
“Memphis is my dream school, due to the fact that there has been a line of great point guards that have originated from that school; that have been drafted to the NBA such as Penny Hardaway, Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, and many others,” Duplechan claimed. “I feel the University of Memphis will aid me in becoming one of the best point guards in the nation.”
In seems everything is set for this ball player, but he is going to be in the 8th grade and is a long time off from making any decision. He did mention several other universities that he was also interested in.
“I like Kentucky, Arizona, Louisville, Kansas, Cal, UCLA, Stanford, USC and the University of San Diego,” he listed.
That is a long list, but if he stays on the pace he is on right now, all of those schools will come begging him to play for them.
Duplechan is going to be a force to reckon with on the basketball court for many years to come.
