I have personally seen some of the ALLEGED class of 2018 play in person…I respect and appreciate some of these young baller’s skills and talents but play your REAL AGE GROUP…I think the class rankings should reflect on some of the age differences with some of these young men.
I have stated again and again, I *DO* take into account DOB when compiling rankings and accessing potential, and so does the current JrFuture150.com staff that works with me for that matter.
However, there are times when the player(s) in question—that also happen to be ‘grade exceptions’—, are both better players and better prospects than their younger peers. Sure that’s not always the case, but it certainly happens.
I’ve also gone on record that I am hopeful a major travel organization, such as AAU, will do away with competition by grade and organize their events by DOB. However, the reasoning for *NOT* doing that is because for scholarship purposes, age is not a factor for collegiate programs/coaches.
Regardless of anyone’s opinion, an eligible freshman is an eligible freshman at the collegiate level, whether that player is 18 years old or 28 years old. That notion has had a trickle down effect to grassroots basketball and is the source of all this reclassification ‘drama’.
