SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Future150) -- Darrion Trammell is currently a freshman at St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco, CA.
The explosive freshman plays at a very fast but controlled pace. Although the 5’6” point guard is shorter than many of his opponents, he is able to finish at the rim, take contact, and be a pest to other teams on defense.
Trammell has proven himself to be one of the top point guards in the Bay Area for the Class of 2018.
Origin story
Darrion is from Marin City, California; just north of San Francisco.
When you look into the crowd at his games and see Darrion’s huge cheering sections, it is especially clear that the Marin City community is behind him 100 percent and strongly supports Darrion.
When most incoming freshmen decide to go to their local high school, Trammell wanted to look at all of his options. He elected to travel 30 minutes daily. Trammell is enrolled at St. Ignatius Prep.
“I thought it would be a good idea to get a little taste of a different academic environment,” said Trammell.
Trammell also works out with a trainer.
“His IQ for the game is astonishing,” said Trammell's trainer Lorenzo Bynum. “The way he thinks a play out in his mind before he executes it.”
Bynum has been able to see him mature both on and off the court.
Trammell is a very humble player, who rarely shows emotion during his games. You can see that he is very focused throughout the game.
“What began as something he did just for fun has become an obsession,” said Darrion’s uncle Garland Duhey.
The humble point guard spends countless hours in his local recreation center getting shots up, perfecting his moves, and working on his strength.
On the floor
Trammell is great at controlling the tempo of a game and being the facilitator for his team. He simply sees his role as distribute the ball.
Bynum explained that this has always been the way Trammell has played.
“He’s an unselfish player who understands the sacrifice it takes to reach his goals,” said Bynum. “He has flashy moments, but he uses those moments to free his teammates up for the open shot.”
He has played AAU for many top teams including the Oakland Soldiers, Nor Cal Power and NBBA.
The freshman standout has been invited to many premiere camps including the HoopGroup Future All-American camp, the Pangos Jr. All-American camp, the Adidas Jr. Phenom camp, and the Jr. Super 100 camp.
After watching Trammell play AAU last year Jesse Bethel Head Coach Dwayne Jones had glowing praise.
