New York, NY (Future150) -- It has been well documented how deep the class of 2016 is, but it looks like the class of 2017 will challenge it as one of the top classes in the past decade. While it may not have the same star power at the top, there is a ton of depth, especially at the point guard position.
One point guard who has just begun to ping the high-major radar is Net Gain Sports' McKinely Wright. The diminutive lead guard has had big games on the UA Circuit this year and has proven that he has a chance to be a very effective player at the highest level in the college game.
With good vision, speed, passing ability, and defense, Wright is an intriguing lead guard.
"I like playing point guard, I want to be a leader and be in control of my time, to get my teammates involved, I like being able to lead," said Wright.
The next step for Wright's development will be improving his jumper, once he becomes an above average shooter, teams will need to respect his shot more and that will make him more dangerous.
A number of programs have reached out to Wright, but Marquette has put in the most work early. He was able to visit the Golden Eagles earlier this spring.
"I liked the visit, the facilities are nice and I like their playing style, Wojo reminds me a lot of myself in that he was a smaller guard who loved to defend," he said.
Illinois pulled the trigger and offered late last month, while Nebraska, Creighton, Drake, UNI, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, Texas Tech, and North Dakota State have all been involved in his recruitment as well.
With the UA All-American camp and UAA Finals taking place in the firs two live periods, it will be shocking if Illinois is still the only program to offer Wright at the end of the month. Look for him to continue to turn heads and rack up the offers in the process.
