While The City AAU programs has recently stepped onto the national stage in the past two years, they should be around for the next few years to come as well. One of the main reasons is 2016 point guard Wolfgang Novogratz. A true point guard, Novogratz puts his teammates and winning well above scoring himself.
Perhaps the most impressive part of Novogratz’s game is how mature he is at such a young age. If you didn’t know better, you would think that Novogratz is a rising senior. He turned in a solid season at Poly Prep (NY) and is looking to continue his strong play. Novogratz has a remarkable assist-to-turnover ratio for a player his age. His decision making abilities are elite, as he almost always makes the right pass.
Although he is a pass first guard, Wolf can score the rock as well. He showed an ability to get into the lane and a jump shot that should only get better as he gets older. While it is still very early in the recruiting process, that hasn’t deterred coaches from already offering him. Villanova has offered, as had Northwestern and Rutgers before the coaching changes. Miami (Fl), Ohio State, Minnesota, George Mason, and Georgetown have all begun to show serious interest.
While teammates such as Mike Williams, Eric Paschall, and Mustapha Jones won’t be playing for The City next year; Wolf won’t be without help. Elite 2015 guard Donovan Mitchell will still be with him. Mitchell is a special player himself, and looks like he will be an explosive scorer fairly soon. Of course there is an abundance of talent in New York City, so it will be easy for The City to reload. As long as Novogratz is leading this team, expect them to be extremely competitive.
