Haltom City, TX (Future150) -- The 57th Annual Whataburger Basketball Tournament
Day 1
Game 1- Keller 63, Trimble Tech 44
Trimble Tech and Keller tipped off the opening game of the Whataburger Tournament. Nolan Taylor led Keller with 17 points. Taylor controlled the paint all game long using both strength and finesse. Keller led 30-22 at the half. Trimble Tech was led by DJ McMillan and Spencer Franklin both scoring 12 points each.
Game 2- Mansfield Summit 86, South Grand Prairie 71
Lovell Cabbil Mansfield Summit stole the show on day one at the Whataburger Tournament. The 6’2 2015 PG guard shot the lights out. Cabbil scored 16 first half points 12 of them from behind the arc. South Grand Prairie was led by Curtis Hollis 16 points. In the second half Cabbil scored 11 straight points to push Summit in front for the rest of the game. Cabbil finished the game with a day 1 high of 35 points.
Game 3- Mansfield Lakeridge 67, Southlake Carroll 51
This match up was full of high flying dunks and fast pace. Mansfield Lakeridge controlled the entire game throwing ally oops, no look passes, pressure defense and deep threes. Southlake took a while to adjust to the pressure but ended up making a pretty good run in the fourth quarter. Southlake was led by Kirk Mason with 13 points. Hunter Summy of Southlake played in his first game after missing the last four with a hand injury. The leading scorer for Southlake, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, was held in check the majority of the game due to foul trouble. Mansfield Lakeridge was led by 6’2 2015 PG Ryan Woolridge. Woolridge can flat out run a team. He has excellent court vision, attacks the rack, and can shoot. Woolridge had 13 first quarter points leading his team to a 23-9 first quarter lead. Woolridge finished the game with 17 points.
Game 4- Cypress Lake 72 Arlington Martin 61
De’Aaron Fox (Future150 #1 PG in Texas) lived up to his ranking. With Kansas, Baylor, Texas A&M, Kansas State and many more schools on hand to watch him, Fox put on a show. He had two dunks, attacked and finished, posted up and knocked down mid range jumpers. Fox led Cypress Lake with 26 points. Arlington Martin didn’t bow to Fox, despite this #8 ranking in Future150 Class of 2016 rankings. Sharpshooter Andrew Dotson scored 24 points and battled hard against Fox. Victor Lewis helped Dotson out by scoring 21 points helping Arlington Martin cut the lead down to 2 late in the game.
Game 5- Desoto 86. Plano East 51
Desoto was led by their big fella 6’9 Marques Bolden with 24 points and 6 blocks. Bolden was just too much for Plano East. Desoto’s PG Julian Miranda showed off his great court vision with no look passes, attacking the rim and kicking it out, and feeding the big fella. Desoto started the game out 28-8 and never looked back.
Game 6- Little Rock Parkview 61 North Crowley 44
In the surprise for the day, Little Rock Parkview knocked off North Crowley. Crowley was led by super sophomore SG Jordon Myers with 14 points. Little Rock Parkview was led by Jalen Franklin and Khahil Garland both scoring 15 points each.
Game 7- Plano West 80, Northwest 32
From the opening tip Plano West took off running and never looked back. Starting the game with a 22-6 lead Plano West cruised to victory. DJ Hogg paced Plano West with 22 points and his sidekick Mickey Mitchell had 13 points.
Game 8- Richland 63, Jonesboro Arkansas 57
In the night cap 2018 PG CJ Roberts scored 13 points. Richland High was down three at halftime. They ended the game with a 22-point 4th quarter, enough for the victory.
