Memphis, TN (Future150) -- Heading into the July live period, Western Kentucky will carry some momentum on the recruiting front.
Monday evening, 2015 Jackson (Tenn.) South Side point guard Chris McNeal gave his verbal commitment to Ray Harper and his staff.
"The coaches contacted me every day," McNeal reasoned for his commitment. "I have a great relationship with all the coaches. They have been in search for a point guard and they believe that with me theu can have thay point guard to hopefully make a run in the tournament in the next couple of years."
McNeal recently visited the Western Kentucky campus when he and teammate Malik Hicks visited for the Hilltoppers' elite camp. That visit sealed the deal for the speedy point guard.
"The visit was very big, I had to see the campus and meet all the coaches before I made this decision," he explained.
There have been discussions of McNeal and Hicks as a package deal. It will be interesting to see if the staff can also capture a commitment from him, too.
McNeal also considered offers from Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, and Cleveland State.
McNeal will bring a new dimension to Western Kentucky as a true point guard. The 6-foot guard has the ability to get others involved, as well as score for himself. However, his most impressive traits are his competitiveness and defensive mentality.
He is a three-star recruit according to Future150.com.
