New Rochelle, NY (Future150) -- Virginia head coach Tony Bennett was in hot pursuit of 2016 Iona Prep (NY) combo guard Ty Jerome, and on Tuesday, he landed his man.
Following a visit to the campus last weekend, Jerome decided that the Cavaliers program was where he saw his future.
The 6-foot-3 combo is a fantastic perimeter shooter as well as a high IQ player. He starred over the summer while playing with a loaded New Heights (NY) 16U squad, showing the ability to run the point as well as be a scorer when working off-the-ball.
Coach Bennett was monitoring him closely, trailing him throughout the final July evaluation period at the Under Armour Association Finals, where he was particuarly impressive.
He picked Virginia over scholarship offers from Davidson, George Washington, Harvard, Princeton, Rhode Island, Rutgers, St. Joe's & Temple.
While some question if the ACC is the best fit for him, there's no denying that he's consistently put up numbers against some of the top talent in the country while playing in the competitive Under Armour Association, and Virginia has a proven track record of molding undervalued talent to fit their system.
