Philadelphia, PA (Future150) -- Every summer there are a handful of players that breakout and prove that they are worthy of being considered a viable option for high major programs around the country. This past summer Team Final shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo did just that.
Playing with Team Final Black (Team Final’s non-EYBL 16U squad), Divincenzo burst onto the scene at Philadelphia University during the first live period of the summer circuit. The talented combo guard showcased a great shooting stroke and an ability to create shots off the bounce.
He drew interest from some of the most prominent programs in the country before ultimately cutting his list down to six schools: Villanova, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Rutgers, and Florida. As the process continued it seemed as though Villanova and Syracuse were the two leaders, with the other four trailing behind.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, fellow 2015 Team Final SG Malachi Richardson elected to commit to the Cuse, effectively taking their last available scholarship in the class. Once that happened, it seemed as though Divincenzo was the Wildcats’ to lose.
On Friday afternoon he decided to end the process, electing to commit to Villanova over the remaining programs. A quick glance shows that he should be a great fit there, as he can play either guard position and will give them another scorer. The Delaware native will also be able to remain somewhat close to home when it comes time for him to play his college ball.
The Wildcats have three available scholarships remaining for 2015 and could focus their attention to the likes of Roselle Catholic big man Chris Silva, Paul VI guard Josh Reaves, and St. Joseph’s Prep wing Chris Clover, among others, to round out the class.
