Houston, TX (Future150) -- Future150's 3rd annual "The Summit" Camp kicked off with action on Saturday in Houston, Texas. Known for bringing together some of the nations elite freshman and sophomore prospects, it didn't disappoint in 2016. After the first day of action, there are several prospects who are beginning to separate themselves from the pack.
Mississippi PG Continuing To Build His Profile
It didn't take long for one 2018 point guard to separate himself from the pack at camp on Saturday, and it was DeAnthony Tipler, who represents the powerful southeast Da House program on the AAU circuit. While heralded 2018 teammates Robert Woodard and Javian Fleming steal a lot of the shine, this weekend has provided the 5'11" speedster an opportunity to showcase his complete game. He spent Saturday racking up assists using his excellent court vision, scoring at the rim and from deep, as well as putting down several dunks in transition.
South Carolina Big Man Shows Flashes of Dominance
The most physically imposing big man in attendance on day one of camp was 6'5", 230-pound power forward Dal'Mont Gourdine. The North Charleston native and dual-sport standout (football) started the day in dominant fashion, easily racking up a double-double while showing off improved footwork, mobility & toughness. While he cooled off as the day went on, we expect him to flex his muscle again tomorrow.
Texas Point Guard Lighting Up Scoreboards
We've been monitoring 5'10" floor general Keionte Cornelius for several years now, and the 2019 lead guard continues to add pieces to his game. Today, he showed his improved scoring ability, dropping buckets all over opposing defenses. Whether it was 3-pointers, mid-range jumpers, or finishing in traffic, he continues to add dimensions to his offensive arsenal, and it has been very impressive to watch.
2020 Maryland Wing Standing Out
Making the trip to Texas all the way from Baltimore, 6'6" wing Che Evans looked every bit the part of future high-major prospect at points throughout the day Saturday. A smooth operator from the shooting guard spot, he knocked down shots, created off-the-dribble, showed advanced vision, and showed his athleticism in transition. We expect the Team Melo wing to really step on the gas tomorrow as camp play continues.
Other Summit Camp Standouts:
- Grant Jones - The 6'8" power forward must gain strength and inside post moves, but there are very few 2019's his size in the south who can stroke it from the outside like the Dallas product.
- Tada Stricklen - A pure jump shooter & creator, he racked up points all day Saturday, showing off his offensive repetoire in the process.
- Kevin Hester - Hester played PF for most of the day but is capable of playing both forward positions. Hester cleaned the glass and showed great efficiency on his mid-range jumper. If he continues to grow, he has excellent long-term potential.
- Kevon Parker - Parker is a fundamental wing that always puts his team first. He can slash the lane on command, and is very capable of knocking down the three-point shot. As a rising sophomore, Parker needs to continue to get stronger but he has a very solid overall game.
