Los Angeles, CA (Future150) -- On Wednesday night UCLA landed their first recruit in the 2016 class, and boy is it a talented one.
Chino Hills (CA) point guard Lonzo Ball, the #28 prospect nationally according to our Future150 rankings, pledged to head coach Steve Alford and the Bruins Wednesday night, giving them an excellent prospect to start their class with.
The 6-foot-4 lead guard was a crucial recruit for UCLA due to the proximity to home. He is a West Coast prospect who will be a high profile recruit for the next three years.
With a sky high basketball IQ and excellent size for the position, Ball gives UCLA an explosive guard for the future, one who has a high ceiling on his game.
Here is what he told Future150 West Coast Analyst Nigel Carter about his decision to commit to the Bruins.
"Basically, it's my hometown school. I like the coaching staff and the way they play."
Ball was so excited about the idea of playing at UCLA, he just couldn't wait any longer before pulling the trigger.
"I always liked UCLA, it's kind of like my dream school. When they told me they wanted me to come and play for them, I jumped on it," he told Future150.
The fifth rated point guard in his class currently, Ball is just scratching the surface of his potential and could become a McDonald's All-American by the time he is a senior.
In terms of what he brings to the Bruins, here is what he had to say about his game.
"I can bring leadership, offensive scoring power, and help them push the ball and run."
