Euless, TX (Future150) -- On Wednesday afternoon, the Texas Longhorns received a commitment from local McDonald's All-American and concensus top 10 prospect Myles Turner, giving the school a gigantic frontcourt piece for next season.
The 6-foot-11 Turner chose the Longhorns over scholarship offers from Kansas, SMU, Duke, Oklahoma State, Ohio State and Texas A&M.
Ranked as the #7 prospect in the country according to our rankings, he gives Texas the kind of immediate impact player that they have lacked since landing Kevin Durant last decade. Furthermore, landing the local big man is huge for in-state recruiting efforts going forward for the Longhorns.
Texas returns their entire starting lineup from last season, and the addition of the elite center bolsters their chances at a deep NCAA tournament run in 2015.
Running the floor incredibly well for a player his size, the mobile big man is a big time shot-blocker on the defensive end. While his offensive game is still catching up to his enormous frame, he shows flashes of the ability to stretch defenses out to the three-point line, which will make him a matchup problem for defenses next year.
An intriguing prospect since his rise in the public eye last year, he could be a one-and-done prospect by next season's end, based on his potential and developing skills.
