Charlottesville, NC (Future150) -- One of the hottest names to surface during AAU action this spring and summer has been Hough (NC) power forward Luke Maye. An unconventional forward with an old man's game, the 6-foot-7, 230-pound post has produced results everywhere he's been, against the highest level of competition.
This spring on the Nike EYBL circuit, while playing with Team United, he averaged 17.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, performing against some of the highest rated post prospects nationally.
He continued his strong play last weekend at the 2014 NBA Top 100 Camp, averaging 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds throughout the camp. While a bit undersized for the power forward position, he uses angles and excellent perimeter shooting skills to stretch the defense.
It's nearly impossible for defenses to counter the big man. If he's being guarded by a bigger post, he will simply take him out to the perimeter and torch him with long jumpers. If you try to put a small forward on him, he will take his game into the post, where he uses an array of post moves to score on the block. An excellent rebounder, the North Carolina product is seeing a surge recently in his recruitment.
Currently, he holds offers from Clemson, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Davidson & College of Charleston, among others. However, he has recently taken campus visits to Virginia and the University of North Carolina.
It is becoming more and more clear that Maye can play at the highest level, and he is an appealing prospect because he will be a "system player" who will have a lasting impact on a program.
Look to hear more about Maye over the next month as we head into July.
