West Valley City, UT (Future150) -- On Thursday, the University of Utah picked up a commitment from in-state 2015 post prospect Makol Mawien, the best interior post prospect in the state.
The Granger (UT) big man has become a highly regarded defender over the past two years while playing with the Utah Prospects AAU program, showing his ability to be a high level shot-blocker around the rim.
While he is raw offensively, he still shows an ability to finish around the rim using his length on the inside, and with development, can become a double-double threat down the line for the Utes.
In an article with the Salt Lake Tribune, he had this to say about his commitment to the program.
"I think I'll succeed here, and I think staying home will be the best for me," he said "I like their style, I like Coach K, and he's a good coach. I think it will be a great place to play."
Rated as a 3-star prospect by Future150.com, Mawien continues a trend over the past few years of the Utes keeping talented big men at home.
