Las Vegas, NV (Future150) -- During the fall signing period, Deer Valley (Cal.) point guard Kendall Smith had some mid-major looks from schools, but nothing major.

Fast-forward a couple of months and the senior found himself with premium recruitment.

That recruitment concluded Friday morning, as Smith made his verbal pledge to UNLV by posting a picture of the Runnin’ Rebels’ mascot on Twitter.

“I chose UNLV because the fit is great for me,” he told Future150.com. “All the people there made me feel at home. I walked into the gym and everyone knew me.”

The 6-foot guard took an official visit to UNLV a few days prior to making his commitment, and, in the end, that pushed his decision over the top.

“The visit was really big. The atmosphere was tremendous, and I really felt welcome by the fans. The players and coaching staff treated me well.”

“Coach [Dave] Rice and Coach [Justin] Hutson made me feel really welcome. They did a great job recruiting me. I can’t wait to be a part of the family next year.”

Due to him waiting out his recruitment, Smith chose the Runnin’ Rebels over UCLA, UConn, and San Diego State.

Now Smith can turn his full focus to his high school season, where he and Kentucky-bound Marcus Lee are looking to accomplish big things.

“It feels great [to have my decision made]. Now I can focus on winning a state championship with my high school team and enjoying my senior year,” he explained.

Smith is a three-star according to Future150.
