Corinth, MS (Future150) -- On a stacked Memphis (Tenn.) White Station team, it can be tough to standout as a top player. Nevertheless, 2015 point guard Nych Smith is finding ways to make a name for himself.
“I’m a score-first point guard and I impact the game with my scoring. That’s how I am standing out right now,” Smith told Future150.com. “I can also run the team from a floor general standpoint.”
With several high-major offers, Smith has caught the eye of many college coaches. He lists offers from Memphis, Mississippi State, UMass, UConn, Arkansas, and Wichita State.
However, two schools have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack in his recruitment.
“I like Memphis and Mississippi State. Those two are sticking tough right now.”
Both schools are very close to home and should allow him to incorporate his score-first mentality at the next level. Mississippi State has been around for quite some time, but the hometown school may hold the upper hand at this point in his recruitment.
“It’s a good feeling [to have an offer from Memphis]. Being born in Memphis and being able to stay home and play in front of my family and friends, that is a pretty good feeling. It’s appealing,” he explained.”
Smith is a five-star prospect and ranked No. 25 in the 2015 Future150 rankings.
