Montgomery, AL (Future150) -- By choosing to play with the Alabama Challenge, 2014 Malone (Fla.) shooting guard Chai Baker has opened a lot of doors for himself. Not only has he made new friends from the state, but he is also drawing heavy interest from some of the Alabama schools.
Alabama, UAB, Florida State, Georgia, Florida Gulf Coast, and Middle Tennessee State have all offered him thus far, and more could be coming. Kansas State and Wichita State, along with other schools, could extend offers by the end of April’s live periods.
While many schools are involved, the 6-foot-3 guard says two schools are sticking out right now.
“Alabama and UAB are coming the hardest. UAB is probably coming the hardest out of anyone right now,” Baker said.
Baker shared with Future150.com what is making those respective schools stick out amongst the rest:
UAB: “I went on an unofficial visit to UAB recently. I think they have a nice program going. I’m still getting to know the staff, but they are really coming hard.”
Alabama: “I like their program. They really fit my style. They are more of an up-and-down team. Alabama is definitely one of my top schools.”
The lockdown defender is in no rush to make a decision. In fact, he will take some visits in June, and then he will be patient with the recruiting process.
“I thought about making a decision before school starts, but I think I’m going to wait and be patient with it. I will take some visits in June, though.”
The junior has a high motor that distinguishes him from the rest of the pack. That, along with his constant movement, allows Baker to be the player he is.
“I can create my shots and I can move without the ball to get open. I’m also pretty physical rebounding,” he explained.
From Florida to Alabama, Baker is an under-the-radar player that could be a steal for a school just because of his defensive capabilities and constant energy.
