Oldsmar, FL (Future150) -- Just after highlighting the commitment of D.J. Bowles a couple days ago, it is time to address the recruitment of another player on that talented Oldsmar Christian team.
Two guard Troy Holston has a skill that is coveted by any coach at any level – the ability to shoot the basketball. And it appears that it will eventually land him a spot with a division one program.
Holston recently told Future150.com that he now holds offers from Georgia State, Rider, Boston University, Delaware, and Southern Mississippi and has been in contact with Murray State, UMass, Wichita State, Georgia, Tennessee, Penn, and Virginia Tech.
The 2014 wing can be defined as a true shooting guard with solid size at 6’4” and an ability to get hot quickly from deep. Defenders have a tough time contesting his jumper, as he gets good elevation on his shot and has a fairly quick release. He is not, however, limited as only a shooter.
Holston can also be a scorer in that he can make shots off the catch or off the dribble and has a variety of ways to create separation from defenders. Owning a solid dose of athleticism, Holston can make plays around the rim, as well.
He should continue to improve other areas of his game, but as these developments come along, so will his overall value as a prospect. That is when more schools will come his way.
Even then, however, his identity will be that of a shooter and a scorer. And that is exactly what these schools are recruiting him to be.
It’s a role that Holston knows well, and he will have every opportunity to thrive in it at the next level.
