Charlotte, NC (Future150) -- Trey Wertz played with one of the best high school teams in the nation this past season, with Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC. Even though Wertz was certainly proving his worth as a D1 prospect throughout the season he seemed to be a bit overshadowed by senior teammates Grant Williams (Tennessee), Isaac Johnson (App State), and Josh Howard (Brown), along with one of the top Sophomore's in the nation in PG Devon Dotson.
Since AAU season has started Wertz has become more of a focal point running with Team Loaded NC's 16u team on the Adidas Circuit. This has led to a huge bump in the number of schools showing interest in him, along with an offer list of three schools that include Richmond, Rice, and most recently, La Salle.
"Yeah Virginia, Florida, UNC, Tennessee, Davidson, Charlotte, Xavier, East Carolina, Charleston, Wake Forest, Clemson, and Stanford," Wertz said when asked about which schools have showed interest in him recently.
That is a lofty list of schools that even includes one of the blue blood's of college basketball with the UNC Tarheels. It's easy to see that Wertz is taking full advantage of the live period's this season, and he's been working on improving some major aspects of his game.
"My defense, ability to create space off the dribble, and finishing at the rim are the main things," Wertz said. "But really everything to be honest."
As Wertz heads into his final half of his high school basketball career, his recruitment is still very young. There are still plenty offers that will be added onto his list before everything is said and done. Wertz expressed his thoughts to Future150 about schools he favors or any dream schools he may have.
"I can't really say I like one schools in particular right now. On the other hand I don't really have a dream school, but an offer from any of the blue bloods, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, or UCLA would be a dream come true."
Wertz may not be regarded as a high major prospect right now, but he is definitely on a very good start to working his way there.
Stay locked in with Future150 as we continue to track Wertz development and progress with his recruitment.
