San Diego, CA (Future150) -- After being the leaders for quite some time, San Diego State was officially able to reel in St. Augustine (Cal.) shooting guard Trey Kell on Tuesday.
"I felt that having my parents be able to watch my games and being close to home was something that would help me a lot," Kell told Future150.com Tuesday night.
Kell, a hometown kid, had become a primary target for Steve Fisher and his staff in the 2014 class. Now, the 6-foot-4 star has a chance to be a crowd favorite in the city where it all began.
"It's a cool feeling knowing that the fans I have now will watch me play in college," he said. "It's nice being known as somewhat of a hero picking San Diego State."
Kell chose the Aztecs over Vanderbilt. Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, and Gonzaga were others involved.
Kell expects to be a valuable piece for the team in the future, as he can do many things as a basketball player.
"I think I will bring an element that the team doesn't have right now, and that is a player who can do a little bit of everything. They have athletes and shooters, but not a person that can do it all. I think I fit that mold."
San Diego State now has a nice two-man class of Kell and point guard Kevin Zabo. However, the Aztecs are still focused on bringing some more players in. Kell will do his best to help bring one of the West Coast's best athletes to campus with him.
"I'm trying to bring in Zylan Cheatham now."
Comments:
Not to harp but there is no “c” in Steve Fisher’s name.
Thanks & GO AZTECS!
“Kell chose the Aztecs over Vanderbilt; Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, adn Gonzaga were others involved.”
I would cut off the last part “adn Gonzaga were others involved.”“
