When you think about the state of Alabama basketball is the furtherest thing from your mind when it comes to sports. Football is king and Fridany night light is wild in the fall. Athletes flock to the football fields and love the game due to its born and bread in their blood.
Basketball is the step child sport in the state of Alabama but is growing fast and has been over the last decade. At the college level the sport took another step when the Auburn Tigers made it to the NCAA championship game this year. Recruiting is growing and players at the youth level are starting to take notice.
Future150 takes a look at the 2020 Class in the state of Alabama. Let's see where the rank currently and where they might project in the near future heading into their Senior year of high school.
1. Colby Jones- (SG, Mountain Brook) Jones is a 6-foot-5 inch long wiry prospect who has seen his stock explode after a strong high school and Spring performances. He is a great athlete, shoots the ball well from all three levels and is a elite defender. One of his best attributes is his ability to guard and play mulitiple positions on the floor. Stock: On the Rise. Prediction: High Major
2. Rongie Gordon- (PF, Jeff Davis) Gordon is a 6-foot-8 inch PF who loves doing damage in the paint. He has good foot work, finishes with either hand and loves the offensive glass. As he stretches his jump shot range look for his game to take the next step in his development. Stock: Level. Prediciton Mid Major Plus
3. Austin Harvell- (SF, East Limestone) Harvell is a 6-foot-6 inch moster who can do it all. He is coming off a knee injury from last year and is just now starting to hit his stride. He is a great athlete who finishes above the rim. Stretching his range to the three point line has been the improvement his game needed. Stock: On the Rise. Prediction: Mid Major Plus
4. Antwan Burnett- (SF, Sidney Lanier) Burnett is a 6-foot-4 inch athlete who can score in bunches. He loves getting out on the fast break and finishing at the rim. His three point shot has improved go go along with his downhill attacking style of play. Stock: Level Predicition: Low - Mid Major
5. Tommy Murr- (CG, Lindsay Lane) Murr is a 6-foot-1 inch combo guard who can flat out score. Averaging over 40 points in high school at a 1A and 12.5 points on the EYBL, Murr has seen his offers multiply in a hurry. He has excellent court vision and makes everyone around him better. He holds offers from Samford, Tenn Tech and Troy with Belmont and Lipscomb about to pull the trigger. Stock: On the Rise. Prediction: Low - Mid Major
6. Jadan Coleman- (SG, Bob Jones) Coleman is a long, wiry prospect from the Huntsville area who can flat out shoot the ball. He does most of his damage from beyond the arc on corner threes. The last time we saw him at the EYBL in Atlanta, he was putting the ball on the floor more often which is the next step in his game. He has a ton of upside to his game. Stock: On the Rise. Prediction: Low Major
7. Mark Sears- (PG, Muscle Shoals) Sears is a 5-foot-11 inch lead guard who passes first but can score as well. This smooth lefty has been on the seen for a while and loves leading his teams to wins. His downhill attacking style of play makes him a tough gurad and allows him to create easy opportunities for his teammates. (Offers): UAB (Interest): UNA, Clemson, Tenn St. Stock: On the Rise. Prediction: Low Major
8. Giancarlo Valdez- (CG, Decatur Heritage) Valdez burst on the seen this past high school season and has carried tha momentem over into the AAU Circuit season. He is a high volume scorer who can play both guard positions. He projects more as a scorer but could be a seconday ball handler if need be. Stock: On the Rise. Prediction: Low Major
9. Trey Bonham-(PG, UMS Wright) Bonham is a 5-foot-11 inch lead guard with tremendous ball skills and court vision. His speed, first step and play making abilities are what draw your eye to his game. He is a hard nosed tough player who loves playing defense and is a good rebounder. Stock: On the Rise Prediction: DII - Low Major
10. Tyler Lang- (SG, Leflore) Lang is 6-foot-6 inch small forward who can score on all three levels and makes it look easy at times. He is long, athletic and skilled wing who loves to rebound the ball. His on ball defense is one area that stands out when you watch him play. Stock: Level Prediction: DII - Low Major
