Baltimore, MD (Future150) -- This past weekend was the inaugural session of Elevate Hoops’ The Proving Ground. Held in Baltimore, the league got off to a fantastic start and looks to be one of the premier middle school events in the country. The 14U division was very talented, and a number of players turned in big time performances:

Mike Sumner, 2020 CG, D.C. Premier: Sumner is a sweet-shooting guard who can create for himself or others. He can really stretch the defense with his shooting ability, as well as find his teammates for easy scoring opportunities.

Justin Lewis, 2020 PF, Team Melo: Lewis is an active body who did a majority of his damage out of the high post. He is quick enough to take his man off the dribble on a straight line drive and finish around the rim. He also has decent touch out to 16 feet. The next step for him will be developing more of a traditional back-to-the-basket game.

Cashius McNeily, 2020 CG, Canada Elite: McNeily has good size for either guard position at 6-foot-3 and already plays with the poise of someone much more experienced. At this point he is still transitioning to point guard and will need to solidify his jumper from beyond the arc. That being said, his vision, ball-handling, and natural scoring ability make him one of the top prospects in his class.

Elijah Taylor, 2020 PF, We-R-1: Taylor is an athletic big man with a solid frame who plays with a non-stop motor. He has solid hands and can catch the ball and finish in traffic. He is still a little raw offensively and will need to develop an actual post arsenal

Jordan Toles, 2020 SG, Baltimore United: Toles is a big time athlete who can get to the rim and finish above it. He also rebounds the ball very well for his positon.

Tyler Jacobs, 2020 SG, New Heights: Jacobs is a big time scoring wing who is able to create his own shot. He can also put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. The next step for him will be becoming a better defender and rebounder.

Jahmal Banks, 2020 SG, Havoc City: Banks is a high-energy wing who rebounds the ball very well for his position and can finish at the rim. The next step for him will be extending the range on his jump shot.

Kareem May, 2020 PG, Brooklyn Rens: May is a lightning quick point guard who defenses seemingly couldn't stay in front of. He got to the rim at will and was able to create for his teammates. He is also an aggressive defender. The next step will be becoming more conisstent from beyond the arc.

Kobe Antwi, 2020 SG, Canada Elite: Antwi is a talented scorer who has a really nice looking shot. He can also put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim. The next step for him will be learning to finish through contact and become a better rebounder for his position.

Che Evans Jr., 2020 SG, Team Melo: Evans is a big time wing prospect who is among the most talented players in the league. He can do a little bit of everything, including score, facilitiate, and rebound. He must work to be more consistent at times.
