Madison, WI (Future150) -- The Big Dance is finally here and while everyone would like to cut down the nets, there can only be one champion. That being said, there is always the chance that the next season could be better than the last. With that in mind, Future150 would like to introduce "The Next Step", a segment dedicated to breaking down each program's recruiting class as they bow out of the tournament; because theres' always next season.
Wisconsin made a somewhat unexpected run to the sweet sixteen this season and was just a minute away from the Elite 8 before Notre Dame came back and pulled off the win.
Earlier this season, it appeared that Wisconsin may not make the tournament. With a number of players from last year's final four team all gone, and Bo Ryan retiring early in the year, it appeared that it would be a transition season in Madison.
Greg Gard was able to get the program back on track though, and led the Badgers to another successful season en route to getting the "interm" tag pulled from his title as well.
While the Badgers don't have any 2016 commits, there is plenty to be excited about in Madison. A six man freshman class has shown promise and will likely take another step forward next year. With no seniors on this roster, this team will only get better.
Perhaps just as importantly, Gard has been able to hold onto prize 2017 commit Kobe King. The Wisconsin wing shoots the ball very well and will fit into the Badgers system very well. It will be interesting to see if the Badgers can add anyone late, and what Gard's recruiting philosophy will be moving forward. Regardless, Wisconsin fans should feel very good about having him at the helm.
