Stony Brook, NY (Future150) -- The Big Dance is finally here and while everyone would like to cut down the nets, there can only be one champion. That being said, there is always the chance that the next season could be better than the last. With that in mind, Future150 would like to introduce "The Next Step", a segment dedicated to breaking down each program's recruiting class as they bow out of the tournament; because there's always next season.
Stony Brook had faced heart break over the past few years, losing the conference title game 3 years in a row. Finally, the Seawolves were able to break through and Jameel Warney got to go dancing. Unfortunately, they drew a red hot Kentucky team in the opening round and were sent home.
With Warney, Carson Puriefoy and Rayshaun McGrew all graduating at the end of the year, Stony Brook has a lot to replace next year.
Local product Michael Alomancy will look to help to replace Puriefoy, as the point guard has decent speed, range, and a high basketball IQ. Joining him is Andrew Garcia, a 6-foot-5 200 pound wing who could be All-Conference sooner rather than later. Garcia can score on multiple levels and makes the type of winning plays that should allow him to see the floor early and often.
If Stony Brook is going to make it back to the tournament next season, their underclassmen will need to take a big step forward. Almonacy and Garcia will need to be ready to go as well. But the biggest key for Stony Brook to have continued success is to hold onto head man Steve Pikiell, who's brought this program into prominence.
