Norman, OK (Future150) -- The Big Dance is finally here and while everyone would like to cut down the nets, there can only be one champion. That being said, there is always the chance that the next season could be better than the last. With that in mind, Future150 would like to introduce "The Next Step", a segment dedicated to breaking down each program's recruiting class as they bow out of the tournament; because there is always next season.
Oklahoma had a fantastic run to the Final Four but ran into a hot shooting Villanova team that ultimately ran away with the game in dominating fashion. So what's the next step for the Sooners?
Coach Lon Kruger will be losing two special players in Buddy Hield, and Isaiah Cousins. Along with big man Ryan Spangler who was practically a walking double-double this season. For the three productive players Oklahoma is losing, they have three prospects coming in next season that will try to make up for these huge losses.
The two 4-star prospects in Kameron McGusty and Kristian Doolittle will more than likely have the biggest impacts next season.
McGusty has a college ready body for the two guard position standing at 6'5 and around 185 pounds. He can virtually knock down shots from everywhere on the court, which pairs nicely with his good handles and athleticism. He has the talent and skillset to help contribute from day one.
Doolittle is certainly more of a slashing scorer than McGusty is, as he isn't as pure of a shooter. But he makes up for that with his fantastic rebounding abilities for a wing. He may take a little more time than McGusty to get adjusted to the next level, but he could become a big time threat down the road, nonetheless.
The last piece of this class comes in the form of 3-star international prospect, Matt Freeman. Freeman is a 6'10 PF/C from New Zealand, and like most international big man, Freeman is very capable of knocking down jumpers all the way out to the three point line. Once Freeman can become a big contributor in the paint, and gets used to the physicality of division one basketball, the sky is the limit for this young prospect.
Even though Coach Kruger loses some huge pieces, expect this class to be very fun to watch and they should have no problem winning their fair share of games.
