Philadelphia, PA (Future150) -- Every year, July proves to be the biggest proving ground for prospects, and with only one live period this past April, that was even truer. With the marathon that is the July recruiting period, there is always a handful of prospects that really see their stock take off and pick up a large amount of offers. This year the argument can be made that no player saw their stock take off more than Ohio native Matt Moyer.
Playing with the VCC Ohio Warriors, Moyer took off during the first live period with his strong play at the Reebok Breakout Classic and Elevate Showdown. Flanked by good friend and fellow top 100 prospect Seth Towns, the duo proved to be one of the best one-two punches in the country at the 16U level this year.
But Moyer in particular really has taken a step forward in his game. The 6-foot-8 combo-forward has shown how explosive he can be, routinely finishing baseline drives with thunderous dunks throughout the month. He is also a great rebounder and defensive player who has vastly improved his perimeter game in recent months as well.
Back in May at Future150's "The Summit", there was little doubting that Moyer had one of, if not the highest ceilings, in the camp. Fast forward to July and it’s clear he is starting to realize that he has a chance to be a truly elite player. He has a fair amount of skill to his game and it appears that he isn’t close to finishing his development as a player; a scary thought to the rest of the class of 2016.
At this point Moyer now holds offers from Xavier, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Florida, UNLV, Iowa, Wiconsin, USC, Butler, Tennessee, Arizona State, Penn State, Wake Forest, Kansas State, Ohio, Detroit, Air Force, Rice, and Liberty. Schools such as Michigan, Kansas, and Syracuse, among others have shown serious interest in the rising junior who appears that he is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. Look for him to make a considerable jump in our next rankings update and follow along with Future150 as we continue to track his progress.
