College Station, TX (Future150) -- Texas A&M has not made the NCAA Tournament in three straight seasons, but that has not stopped the Aggies on the recruiting trail, snagging four recruits for the 2015 class. Not only is it surprising to see A&M already has four guys already committed, but these are four of the bigger names in next year's class that chose A&M over some prestigious programs.
Those verbals include three four-star recruits in shooting guard Admon Gilder, small forward D.J. Hogg and center Tyler Davis. They also picked up a commitment from a five-star, as forward Elijah Thomas chose the Aggies.
Some could argue that A&M landed these players because they are all Texas guys, but there may be more to that than just home state bias. Coach Billy Kennedy and staff use the pipeline to their advantage, but they’ve got to be doing something right because they’re not the only basketball program in Texas. The staff at A&M has been hard at work beating out premier schools in the region like UT, Baylor, SMU, Oklahoma State, Arizona, and Kansas.
Some may say this is a flash in the pan, and A&M will not be landing classes like this regularly, but make no mistake that this coaching staff is working hard. There is no doubt they will continue to have the mindset that they can steer guys to College Station, despite competing with big names like Rick Barnes, Sean Miller and Larry Brown.
There is plenty of excitment for the future of the Aggies in 2016 and 2017, as those classes have some big names from Texas and out West like De’Aaron Fox, Terrance Ferguson, P.J. Washington and Victor Bailey Jr. Although this discussion talks about players in the future, do not forget about the Aggies in this coming season on the hardwood, as they will begin to show their growth in the Big XII.
