Las Vegas, NV (Future150) -- Sophomores aren’t necessarily coaches’ biggest priorities right now, but a select few garner the same attention that the elite juniors and seniors do. However, Stephen Zimmerman may be one of the biggest priorities out West right now, regardless of class.
Zimmerman, a 6-foot-10 center out of Bishop Gorman High School, will take on a heavier role next season, as the Gaels will lose Shabazz Muhammad.
This summer, the rising sophomore is looking to improve and help lead his school to another state championship.
“I have been playing with Dream Vision 17U this spring, and we recently took home the championship at the Real Deal in the Rock,” he began. “I’m just trying to adjust to playing against bigger and more experienced players. My teammates have been great in helping me adjust.”
While it is still early in his recruitment, Zimmerman currently has eight offers from UNLV, UCLA, Kansas, Arizona, Memphis, UConn, Oregon, and Oregon State. Others are very interested, too.
“Recently, Indiana, Memphis, Tulsa, Missouri, and Tennessee have shown a lot of interest in me. I’m thankful for all the schools showing interest in me.”
At such a young age with so many schools pursuing him, Zimmerman can’t ask for much more. It took a lot to get a few schools out of him that he hopes to hear from in the future.
“I would like to hear from Kentucky, Duke, and North Carolina – once you’ve heard from them, you know all the hard work is paying off,” he said humbly.
Zimmerman isn’t planning to take many (if any) visits this summer; instead, he wants to continue to develop his skills as a player.
“I’m not sure about visits. I’m focusing on my game this and getting ready for a new role on my high school team,” he explained. “I want to improve my ball-handling and aggressiveness for the rest of the summer.”
