Orange Beach, AL (Future150) -- The basketball season in the state of Alabama is winding down and is heading into the Area Tournament playoffs next week. Future150 has been to over 40 games this season scouting and evaluating some of the top young talent in the state of Alabama.
Last week the recruiting trail took us to South Alabama and Orange Beach High school where we watched the #3 ranked 2028 SG Lee Steele compete in area play. Steele is a silky smooth lefty that stands 6-foot-4 inches tall and has a long wiry frame. He can play multiple positions but shooting guard seems to come more natural to him at this point in his development.
Steele is averaging 19.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3 assists on the season. In his last 3 games he has scored 24, 16 and 32 points last night versus Foley 77-64 win. He has a high basketball IQ, can score on all three levels and makes it look easy at times. This high major D1 prospect is going to be turning heads in the months and years to come.
Future150 asked Steele what makes you play the game at a high level? "I love the game and competing at a high level, I feel like I am getting the results from my hard work I put in the gym."
He was also asked what are you goals for the rest of the season? Steele said "I want to help my team win and advance to the State Playoffs and hopefully make a run deep. I also love playing with my older brother Matt Steele on varsity that has been great for both of us." He went to say that the overall experience of playing varsity basketball as an 8th grader has been great for his development.
Future150 spoke to Leroy Steele, Father of Lee and Head Assisstant Coach of Orange Beach High school . We asked him what has he seen in Lee over course of the season? Coach Steele went on to say he has seen his son grow exponentially over the course of the season. It took some time to get a feel for the game at this level but once he got it he's grown at a rapid rate. I am really proud of his growth and hopes that both of his sons on the team can help lead them to a deep playoff run.
What are your goals and plans after the season is over? Steel said, "I plan on playing AAU Summer travel basketball with Team Grind on the New Balance Circuit. I want to compete at a high level along side some of my teammates who are some of the best talent in the state." I just want to get better every day, work on my game and get a scholarship to play at the next level. I think thats everyones goals that loves the game of basketball.
