Charlotte, NC (Future150) -- At 5’10, Dalen Dotson knows his position will always likely lie at the point guard spot. He also knows that the position is one of responsibility, one that calls for the ability to run a team and do so effectively. Only a sophomore, Dotson is focusing on all the specifics of the game that can help take his own game to the next level.
Leading a team and directing an offense is not an easy skill to develop, but it is a very important one and is something that Dotson is striving to understand and master.
“Coach has me being more vocal on the court, and I’m still trying to get used to running a team and just being a leader out there and a floor general,” he said.
He’s focused on the big picture, but at the same time he recognizes that the big picture consists of small details, parts of the game that often go unnoticed.
“This year I’m working on the small things. Being a floor general, being vocal, and putting my teammates in the right positions,” he said.
The Charlotte Christian point man mentioned his speed and quickness as his primary advantages over opponents, and he listed two guys at each level whose styles of play are relatable to his own – Derrick Rose and Trey Burke.
“I’m a fast point guard. I like to push the ball, I like to penetrate, and I finish well around the basket.”
Speed kills at any level, and it’s just another detail to Dotson’s developing game.
Dotson played EA Prep on the summer circuit this year, and he’s recently received letters from Gardner-Webb and Liberty.
